Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of boutique hotels in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, but Le Petit Prince actually gets it right in a way that most places miss. It’s tucked right on Hang Gai Street – you know, the silk street where all the tailors are – which means you’re literally in the heart of everything without being on one of those impossibly narrow alleys where motorbikes buzz past your window at 5 AM. The building itself has this sort of refined French colonial vibe that doesn’t feel forced or touristy, and honestly, the moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s pretty remarkable considering you’re about thirty seconds from the chaos of Hoan Kiem Lake.

What really sets this place apart though is the rooftop bar – and I mean, everyone talks about rooftop bars in Hanoi, but most of them are cramped afterthoughts with plastic chairs and mediocre beer. This one actually has space to breathe, decent cocktails (the Vietnamese coffee martini is surprisingly good), and views that stretch over the Old Quarter’s tile rooftops toward the lake. The staff up there knows their stuff too, which you can’t always count on. Downstairs, the rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – clean, well-designed, good beds – but it’s the little details that matter. The air conditioning actually works properly (trust me, this matters in Hanoi summers), the WiFi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and the bathrooms have real water pressure. I mean, these sound like basic things, but you’d be amazed how many places get them wrong.

The location is honestly perfect for first-time visitors or people who want to be close to everything. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from the weekend night market, five minutes from St. Joseph’s Cathedral, and close enough to the lake that you can easily join the morning tai chi crowds if that’s your thing. Hang Gai itself gets busy during the day with shoppers hunting for silk scarves and custom clothing, but it settles down nicely in the evenings. The hotel’s check-in process is refreshingly straightforward – no weird paperwork drama or surprise fees – and the front desk staff actually seems to know the neighborhood well enough to give useful recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots. With a 9.3 rating, you’re paying for quality here, but it’s not one of those places where you feel like you’re being gouged just because you’re foreign. It’s just a well-run hotel that happens to be in an excellent spot, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  Great location in the old quarter, excellent staff.
  
  What could be improved: Initially, we were in a room at the back of the hotel, which I wouldn’t recommend as there was no natural light and it felt claustrophobic. For the third night we were moved to a room at the front with a view because of new guests causing a disturbance through the night. This was much better and also more spacious. Pay the extra for a better room.

  Our room was very clean, with fresh linens and a pleasant scent. The staff ensured everything was in order, making our stay comfortable and enjoyable. It was a welcoming space that felt like a home away from home. We booked our Ha long bay 2 day 1 night with Mrs. Ruby was excellent and great value. The scenic views and the friendly crew made the boat trip even more memorable. We highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Ha Long Bay. Additionally, the local cuisine served onboard was delicious, offering a true taste of Vietnamese flavors. Overall, this trip was a perfect blend of comfort, adventure, and cultural immersion. We look forward to returning soon for another unforgettable journey.

  Great location, in walking distance of the main touristic spots and near to many cafes and stores.
  Breakfast was really good and the staff was kind and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: Overall, we thought the toilet didn't seem very clean and it was a bit too small. When you shower, you ended up getting water on the floor because of the shower curtains.

  Upon hotel, we booked ha long bay 2 day 1 night tour + sapa 3 day 2 night tour with Mrs. Ruby The tours included scenic boat rides in Ha Long Bay and trekking through the terraced rice fields in Sapa, with comfortable accommodations arranged by Mrs. Ruby. Each day offered unique experiences, from cultural visits to stunning landscapes, making the trip both relaxing and adventurous. Also, Mrs. Ruby had free upgrade us to a Premium room city view was nice, large and had a good view. We have a good time on hotel rooftop too. We highly recommend booking through Mrs. Ruby for anyone visiting northern Vietnam.
