You know what caught me off guard about the Legend Westlake Hotel? It’s actually tucked away on this tiny street – Yên Phụ – that most tourists walk right past, but honestly, that’s part of its charm. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from West Lake’s shoreline, which is perfect for those early morning jogs when Hanoi’s still waking up and the vendors are just setting up their phở stalls along the water.

The hotel itself feels like someone took a boutique property and gave it just enough polish without losing its personality. The lobby’s got this warm, lived-in vibe – not sterile like some of the bigger chains downtown. Check-in was surprisingly smooth (I was dreading the usual paperwork dance), and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood. When I asked about good bánh mì spots, the front desk guy didn’t just point me toward tourist traps – he sent me to this hole-in-the-wall place on Xuân Diệu that locals actually use. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out every ten minutes. Air conditioning works well, which honestly matters more than people think when you’re dealing with Hanoi’s humidity. I will say the soundproofing could be better – you’ll hear some street noise in the mornings when the motorbikes start their daily symphony, but it’s not the kind of thing that’ll keep you up at night.

What really sold me on this place was the location, though. Tay Ho district gets overlooked by a lot of visitors who stick to the Old Quarter, but you’re missing out if you don’t spend time here. The lake’s right there for sunset walks, there’s this great weekend market that happens just a few blocks over, and you can actually breathe a little easier than in the cramped streets downtown. Plus, getting to the main tourist spots isn’t a hassle – grab a taxi or use Grab, and you’re in the Old Quarter in maybe fifteen minutes, depending on traffic. The hotel’s positioning on Yên Phụ means you get that quiet residential feel without being completely cut off from everything. I’d definitely come back, especially since the 8.2 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. For the price point and the area, it’s a solid choice if you want to experience Hanoi like less of a tourist and more like someone who actually lives here.

  Overall a nice hotel. We booked this hotel for our final stay in Vietnam after travelling the country for a couple of weeks. The place was clean, the breakfast was good, the staff were friendly and helpful and the location is pretty good with some nice walks around the area and easy access to the rest of the city by taxi.
  
  What could be improved: By Vietnamese standards, this was quite an expensive hotel. For the added price we expected a very comfortable stay with some nice views of the lake. We booked the most expensive room they had available at the time, with a lake view. We were put on the 5th floor where we could still hear the eternal traffic noise and the traffic wardens whistles first thing in the morning. The view of the lake was also somewhat underwhelming from the 5th floor as you have many buildings around you that are higher than 5 floors, perhaps the room description would be better as “room with glimpses of the lake”. Small details in the room like bed side lights and a shelf in the shower for your soap were missing, which is surprising for a more luxurious hotel. Overall, for the price we were left slightly disappointed by the hotel.

  Big rooms, breakfast quite good and friendly staff. Left my baggage there for a week with valuables and nothing was stolen which was great.
  
  What could be improved: For the price the room and hotel is actually very average. I think there may be better in Hanoi, however the price may have been high as it was around TET festival time.
