Le’s home boutique homestay in the center Hanoi Old quarter Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in probably fifty places around Southeast Asia, and Le’s home boutique homestay is one of those finds that makes you want to keep it secret – but honestly, Le and his family deserve the recognition. You know how the Old Quarter can feel overwhelming with all the motorbike chaos and tourist traps? Well, this little gem sits tucked away on Ngõ Huyện, which is basically this narrow alley that somehow manages to be right in the thick of everything but still feels like a neighborhood where actual Hanoians live.
The thing about Le’s place is that it actually feels like someone’s home – because, well, it sort of is. Le’s got this knack for making the whole check-in process feel like you’re being welcomed by family rather than processed through some hotel system. The rooms themselves are small but thoughtfully done, with these gorgeous traditional Vietnamese touches mixed with modern stuff that actually works (I’m looking at you, reliable wifi and hot water that doesn’t cut out mid-shower). What really got me was the breakfast situation – Le’s mom cooks these incredible pho and banh mi that put most restaurant versions to shame, and she’ll sit with you while you eat if you’re up for practicing your Vietnamese or listening to stories about the neighborhood. The coffee’s proper Vietnamese too, none of that instant nonsense.
Here’s what you should know practically speaking: the alley’s too narrow for taxis, so you’ll be walking about two minutes from where they drop you off, but honestly that’s part of the charm. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake and maybe three minutes from the weekend night market madness – close enough that you can duck back for a nap when the heat gets brutal, but far enough that you won’t hear drunk backpackers stumbling around at 3am. The building’s older, so yeah, you’ll hear some street sounds in the morning (motorbikes start early here), but it’s not the jarring honking you get on the main drags. I mean, this is Hanoi – if you want complete silence, you’re in the wrong city. What surprised me most was how clean everything stayed despite being right in the Old Quarter chaos, and Le’s always around if you need recommendations that go beyond the usual tourist circuit. He pointed me toward this incredible bun cha place that I never would’ve found otherwise, tucked away in another alley system entirely. The whole experience just felt authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find as Vietnam gets more developed for tourism.

What could be improved: The only thing was the fact the towel smelled like damp.Alberto from Italy – 26 April 2025 (9/10)
The room was amazing, the position was great and close to everything in the Old Quarter. During the night it was also quite considering the central position.
The host, Minh, has been very helpful and kind to us.
Highly recommended.Rian from United Kingdom – 25 March 2025 (10/10)
Great room in Hanoi Old Quarter. The street isn’t too busy so getting to sleep is not a problem in the evening. The room was very spacious and clean. Would highly recommend if staying in the OQ, great value for money!
Sabine from Switzerland – 18 January 2025 (9/10)
Perfect location, comfortable bed, light switches at the bed
What could be improved: There was a rather loud door bell that rang quite often during the nightAyelet from Israel – 29 December 2024 (10/10)
We stayed in this property twice in two different rooms. Both were exceptionally beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Although central with a perfect location, the place is very quiet. The host and staff were very helpful and easy and fast to communicant.
On our third visit to Hanoi the place was fully booked so unfortunately we couldn’t stay again. Highly recommended.

This place is quite near Hoan Kiem Lake. I can visit famous destinations in Hanoi. The room is very clean and comfortable. The host is friendly and the price is reasonable
Wuen from Singapore – 16 July 2024 (8/10)
Very central. Very comfortable beds. Nicely designed.
What could be improved: Apartment is off Main Street, on a narrow road where cars can’t enter- so if it rains you’ll need to lug your bags through the street. Also towels are polyester, quick dry but feels terrible to the touch.Deeprom from Thailand – 9 May 2024 (9/10)
What could be improved: Dust under bed.
