Lotte The Residence Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Lotte The Residence when I first pulled up to the building on Lieu Giai Street. The location is actually pretty smart – you’re in Ba Dinh district, which means you’re close to the political heart of Hanoi without being stuck in the tourist chaos of the Old Quarter. I mean, you can walk to Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum in about fifteen minutes, and there’s this great little coffee shop called Highlands Coffee just around the corner where locals actually hang out (not just tourists taking Instagram photos).
The thing about this place is that it feels more like a high-end apartment building than a typical hotel – which makes sense since it’s serviced residences. The lobby has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “look at me,” and the staff actually remembers your name after a day or two. My room was spacious, I’ll give them that, with a proper kitchen that you could genuinely cook in if you wanted to try your hand at some pho from the market ingredients. The beds are comfortable enough, though the pillows were a bit too soft for my taste. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night – Lieu Giai isn’t one of those streets where motorbikes are revving at 2 AM, so you actually get decent sleep.
Now, here’s the thing about the 7.3 rating – it’s probably fair, honestly. This isn’t the flashiest five-star you’ll find in Hanoi, and some of the common areas could use a refresh. The gym is decent but nothing spectacular, and the pool area feels a bit cramped during busy periods. But you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want. The service feels genuine rather than over-the-top, and there’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t try too hard. Plus, you’re perfectly positioned to explore the real Hanoi – Tay Ho district with its expat cafes is a quick taxi ride north, and when you want to dive into the street food scene, the Old Quarter is close enough but not so close that you’re dealing with the noise and crowds every single day. The area around the hotel has these tree-lined streets that are perfect for morning walks, and there’s a wet market about ten minutes away where you can watch the city wake up over a bowl of bun cha. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’ll give you a solid base to experience Hanoi like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through.
