You know what struck me first about Louis Apartment? It’s tucked away in this narrow alley off Đội Cấn Street, and I mean really tucked away – you’ll walk past that entrance at least twice before you spot it. But honestly, that’s part of its charm. The Ba Dinh district isn’t where most tourists end up, which is exactly why I loved staying here. You’re close enough to walk to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (about 15 minutes if you don’t get distracted by the street food stalls), but you’re also in this genuinely local neighborhood where people are just… living their lives, you know?

The apartment itself feels like someone actually put thought into making it livable, not just Instagrammable. The kitchen has real pots and pans – I made pho one morning using ingredients from the wet market down on Đội Cấn, and it actually worked out. The bed’s comfortable enough that I overslept twice, and the AC doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing, which honestly surprised me given how many Hanoi places I’ve stayed where you have to choose between being cool or getting sleep. What really got me was the attention to small stuff – there’s actually enough electrical outlets, the shower has decent water pressure, and they’ve got this little balcony where you can sit with coffee in the morning and watch the organized chaos of motorbikes navigating the alley below.

Location-wise, this place is sort of perfect if you want to experience Hanoi without the Old Quarter madness. I mean, don’t get me wrong – you’ll still want to spend time in the Old Quarter, but it’s nice coming home somewhere that doesn’t feel like a tourist fishbowl. The Lotte Tower is maybe 10 minutes by motorbike taxi, and there’s this incredible bun cha place about three blocks away that I stumbled onto – no English menu, just point and pray, but absolutely worth it. The only tiny downside is that Grab drivers sometimes get confused finding the exact entrance (the alley system here is… well, it’s Hanoi), but the host was super responsive about guiding people in. Actually, that’s another thing – the communication was surprisingly smooth for a place that’s clearly more focused on substance than flashy marketing. They just know what they’re doing, and that 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days.
