The place sits tucked away in this narrow alley off Au Co Street – you know, the kind of spot where your taxi driver might look confused for a second before that “ah, I know this place” lightbulb goes off. But that’s actually perfect because it means you’re away from the main road chaos while still being ridiculously close to West Lake.

The thing about Tay Ho is that it’s where Hanoi locals go to escape the Old Quarter madness, and this hotel gets that vibe completely right. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from those lakeside cafes where Vietnamese families hang out on weekends – not the touristy ones, but the real deals with plastic stools and the best pho ga you’ll find anywhere. The staff here actually knows which ones to recommend, which tells you something about how connected they are to the neighborhood. Check-in was smooth (no weird deposit drama), and they helped sort out a motorbike rental without the usual runaround you get at bigger hotels.

What really got me was how quiet it stays despite being in the city. Sure, you’ll hear the occasional motorbike puttering down the alley, but it’s more like a gentle reminder you’re in Vietnam rather than the constant honking symphony you get closer to Hoan Kiem. The rooms have this clean, modern thing going on without feeling sterile – good AC that actually works (crucial in summer), and the beds are properly firm, not those saggy mattresses you sometimes get stuck with. Bathroom’s solid too, with hot water that doesn’t cut out mid-shower. Small things, but they matter when you’re dealing with Hanoi’s humidity.

The 8.6 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed here a few days. It’s not trying to be the Metropole or anything fancy like that, but it nails what most travelers actually want – a comfortable base that doesn’t break the bank while putting you in a part of the city that feels authentic. You’re close enough to walk to the night markets around Tay Ho when you want some energy, but far enough that you can actually sleep through the night. Plus, getting to the Old Quarter is just a quick Grab ride, and the airport’s not a nightmare journey either. I’d definitely book this place again, especially if you want to experience Hanoi like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through.

  The room had all I needed and was clean and fresh. The staff was friendly and had very good service. Good parking for motorbike and possibly to charge electric bike. The view of the lake from the rooftop is a plus. Definitely recommended 👌

  For the price, it’s unbeatable. We couldn’t stand the noise of the old quarter so this was a perfect and quiet location for us, just a 10 min scoot away from central. The bed was super comfy, breakfast was simple but over all, everything was exactly what we wanted. Thank you!
