What I really appreciated was the soundproofing; you can barely hear the street noise, and trust me, that’s worth its weight in gold in Vietnam.

Location-wise, here’s what the guidebooks won’t tell you – you’re about fifteen minutes from Hoan Kiem Lake by taxi (traffic depending, obviously), but more importantly, you’re close to some really good local spots that tourists miss. There’s this incredible pho place just a few blocks away that locals actually eat at, and you can walk to the nearby park for morning exercises with the locals if you’re into that scene. The area feels more residential, so you get a better sense of how people actually live here rather than just the tourist bubble. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which matters if you’re planning day trips outside the city. The hotel’s restaurant is decent for breakfast – nothing revolutionary, but they do a proper Vietnamese coffee and the pho bo is actually respectable. Evening wise, you’ll want to head into town for dinner, but honestly, after a day of sightseeing, sometimes you just want to collapse somewhere quiet, and this place delivers on that front. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does what it promises without any nasty surprises, and in Hanoi, that’s actually pretty valuable.
