Minasi Hotel & Spa Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Hanoi’s Old Quarter that feel like tourist traps, but Minasi Hotel & Spa actually gets it right. Tucked away on Ngõ Huế – which honestly took me two tries to find the first time because the alley entrance is pretty subtle – this place feels like someone’s upscale Vietnamese home rather than another generic hotel. The moment you walk through those glass doors, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s honestly hard to find in Hanoi’s chaotic streets.
What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to blend modern comfort with Vietnamese touches without making it feel forced, you know? The lobby has this gorgeous dark wood paneling and these ceramic pieces that look like they came from Bat Trang pottery village (which, if you’re into that sort of thing, is totally worth the day trip). The staff – and I mean this – actually seem to enjoy working there. My first morning, the front desk guy spent like ten minutes drawing me a little map showing not just the tourist spots but where locals grab their morning pho and which streets to avoid during rush hour. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you can’t get from booking sites.
The spa part isn’t just a marketing add-on either. I tried their traditional Vietnamese massage after a particularly brutal day walking around Hoan Kiem Lake in the heat, and honestly, it was exactly what I needed. The treatment rooms are on the upper floors, so you get these nice views over the neighborhood rooftops – very different from those basement spa situations you sometimes end up with. The rooms themselves are solid – not huge by Western standards, but thoughtfully designed with good blackout curtains (essential when you’re dealing with jet lag) and surprisingly quiet considering you’re right in the heart of Hai Ba Trung district. The air conditioning actually works properly, which… well, if you’ve traveled in Southeast Asia, you know that’s not always a given.
Here’s what I really appreciated: they’re close enough to the action that you can walk to the night markets and all the temples, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you’re not dealing with constant motorbike noise and street vendors at your doorstep. The neighborhood has this authentic residential feel – early mornings, you’ll see locals doing tai chi in the small park nearby, and there’s this incredible banh mi cart that sets up right around the corner every afternoon around 3 PM. The hotel staff pointed it out to me, and I’m pretty sure I went there four days in a row. No regrets.
I mean, it’s not perfect – the elevator is one of those tiny European-style ones that fits maybe two people and a suitcase if you’re lucky – but the overall experience just feels genuine. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me because they’re clearly trying hard and succeeding at most things. It’s the kind of place where you’d actually want to come back, not just because it’s comfortable, but because it feels connected to the real Hanoi rather than some sanitized version of it.

Reviews of Minasi Hotel & Spa
Elena from Russia – 16 April 2025 (9/10)
The hotel was great! Only thing I think might be better – breakfast. But the rest – suite itself, staff, view, location – were perfect.
What could be improved: Breakfast – some days there weren't almost any choice, but for us it wasn't a problem. There are a lot of nice cafes and restaurants nearby in the center.Elena from Portugal – 31 March 2025 (8/10)
I have stayed here before and I like the hotel a lot. The staff is wonderful and the rooms are super clean. The breakfast was adequate, everything was fresh and what I ate was tasty. – limited selection for vegetarians.
There are some nice dinner options close to the hotel. (a lot of vegetarian options) They offer a late check-out for a fee (half of the room rate if you stay until 5 pm).
What could be improved: The hotel is 2km from St Joseph’s Cathedral, about a 30min walk. Grab is always an option. The surroundings of the hotel are not wow and nothing to do or see. Although I love this hotel, I think it is a bit overpriced for the location.Henry from United States – 23 January 2025 (9/10)
The staff are very very friendly, and trying to do their best. We received the best service we ever had in Vietnam!

Despite some renovations happening at the time the staff were very helpful and never minded helping you find restaurants and would even ring and book for you if needed

Polite and friendly staff on reception and in the restaurant during breakfast. Clean and comfortable room. Good location: coffee shops and restaurants around.
It shows that 'here is no wifi', but there is decent wifi in the room. So, it seems that it's a mistake in the description.Prithviraj from India – 21 January 2023 (9/10)
The rooms were very clean. The staff were very very helpful. If I ever go back to Hanoi, I am staying at this place again assuming that the place would still have the same hospitality and cleanliness. Amazing people, amazing room. Worth every penny.

We booked a single bed and they gave us a twin bed so they offered us an upgrade. All of the staff were very helpful and nice from going in to checking out.
Linda from United Kingdom – 3 January 2023 (9/10)
Super clean, with comfortable beds (good sized double) and friendly accomodating staff who really wanted to assist. Decent breakfast with fruit and both western and asian food. The location is off the beaten track and the hotel has been renamed so some taxis were unfamiliar with it, but we didnt have any problems. Great value for money.
What could be improved: Nothing. It was a pleasant stay and exceeded my expectations. The location is away from the old quarter but taxis are easy and cheap. The area is less hectic (a good thing) and less touristy.
