Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Narcissus 2 – it’s tucked into this busy stretch of Lê Duẩn where the motorbikes never really stop humming. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t scream for attention from the sidewalk.

The thing about this spot is it gets the location thing right without being obnoxious about it. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Hoàn Kiếm Lake, which means you can actually duck out for those early morning tai chi sessions before the tourist crowds show up. And I mean early – like 6 AM when the mist is still hanging over the water and the old folks are doing their thing. The staff here seem to get that too; they had decent coffee ready by 6:30 when most places are still fumbling with their machines. The apartment-style rooms are where this place really shines, honestly. Mine had this little kitchenette that I actually used – not just for storing street food leftovers, but for making proper morning coffee with beans from one of those tiny shops on Hàng Bè Street. The fridge was big enough for actual groceries, and the counter space didn’t make me feel like I was performing surgery every time I tried to cut fruit. Plus, and this is key for Hanoi, the windows had decent seals so the street noise stayed manageable. I could still hear the city doing its thing, but it wasn’t like sleeping inside a motorcycle convention.

What really sold me was how the place handles the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. Check-in was smooth even when I showed up at some ridiculous hour after a delayed flight, and they didn’t act like storing my luggage for a few hours was this massive favor. The elevators work (not always a given in older Hanoi buildings), and the WiFi actually reaches the rooms instead of mysteriously dying at the door. I appreciated that they had laundry service that didn’t cost more than the clothes themselves – after a week of exploring temples and markets in Hanoi’s humidity, that matters more than you’d think. The cleaning staff were thorough but not intrusive; they figured out pretty quickly that I’m not a morning person and adjusted accordingly. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with fancy amenities, but it nails the fundamentals in a neighborhood where you can walk to both the chaos of the Old Quarter and the quieter colonial streets around the Opera House. The rating makes sense – it’s the kind of place that gets better the longer you stay because all the little conveniences start adding up.

  Comfortable bed and everything you can need. Great location near Hanoi train station and along bus 86 route from airport.
