Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name “N&D Happy House” with that incredibly long Vietnamese subtitle, I thought I was in for one of those quirky local places that’s either amazing or… well, not. Turns out it’s definitely the former. This little studio apartment sits tucked away in Hoa Lam, which is actually a pretty sweet spot in Long Bien district if you know Hanoi at all. You’re not right in the tourist chaos of the Old Quarter, but you’re close enough that a quick Grab ride gets you there in maybe 15 minutes depending on traffic.

The thing that really got me about this place is how they’ve managed to pack everything you actually need into what’s essentially a studio space without it feeling cramped. I mean, you’ve got a proper kitchenette – not just a hot plate and mini fridge situation – plus your own bathroom, which honestly is huge when you’re staying somewhere that’s not a traditional hotel. The owner clearly gets that travelers want independence sometimes, you know? Like, sure, street food in Hanoi is incredible, but there are mornings when you just want to make your own coffee without having to get dressed and venture out. The apartment has this clean, minimalist vibe that feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical accommodation, and I noticed they keep it genuinely spotless – no weird smells or questionable stains you sometimes get with these converted residential spaces.

What really sold me on recommending this place is the neighborhood itself. Viet Hung ward is where actual Hanoians live, so you get glimpses of real daily life – morning markets, kids heading to school, that sort of thing. There’s a decent pho place about two blocks away that I stumbled onto by accident, and honestly it was better than some of the “famous” spots tourists line up for. The area gets pretty quiet at night, which is perfect if you’re tired of motorbike horns and karaoke bars, but it’s not so far out that you feel disconnected. Plus, and this might sound random, but the Wi-Fi actually works properly here – I was able to video call home without any of those awkward frozen-face moments. The 4-star rating feels about right, maybe even conservative. It’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtfully done and genuinely comfortable. For the price point in Hanoi, especially with that 8.9 rating from other guests, you’re getting solid value and a chance to experience the city like less of a tourist.

  We booked like 2 hours before the stay, there was no problem. The owner even gave us better rooftop room for the price of standard one.

  Just like the pictures and amazing view from up there. Mr Nam and his family are really friendly and helpful.
  The internet is phenomenal. Good water pressure, Beautiful bathroom. They offer laundry service. And you can get there a good night sleep because it is in a quiet area
  
  What could be improved: There are only stairs from the 6th level up to the studio 7th floor. And just like the rest of Vietnam they were a little bit smaller compared to European stairs

  This place is a little out of town, 100k to old town but so worth it. The best shower and cleanliness we have seen in 4 weeks, boi metric entry and nothing was to much. The local area is full of local bars and places to eat and although the language barrier is there,wenever went hungry and were treated very kindly buy veryone we met.
