It’s tucked away on Hào Nam Street in a way that feels intentional – not hidden exactly, but definitely not screaming for attention like some of the flashier places downtown. I mean, Dong Da isn’t where most tourists end up, which honestly works in your favor because you get this authentic Hanoi neighborhood vibe without the constant motorbike parade that never stops in the Old Quarter.

The spa part isn’t just marketing fluff either. I could actually smell the lemongrass and something eucalyptus-y the moment I walked into the lobby, and there’s this genuinely calming energy that carries through the whole place. The staff – and I’m not just being nice here – they actually seem to know what they’re doing. Check-in was smooth, no awkward standing around while they figured out my reservation, and the front desk guy gave me real recommendations, not just the tourist traps everyone pushes. He told me about this little bún chả place two blocks over that became my regular spot for the rest of the trip.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star, but with these thoughtful touches that show someone was paying attention. Good water pressure (seriously important after walking around Hanoi all day), blackout curtains that actually work, and – this might sound weird but hear me out – the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a freight train. You can sleep with it on, which in Vietnam’s humidity is basically non-negotiable. The neighborhood itself is pretty quiet at night, especially compared to staying near Hoàn Kiếm Lake where the party never really stops.

What I really appreciated was the location’s practicality. You’re close enough to the action – about a 15-minute walk to the Temple of Literature, easy grab to the city center – but you’re also in an area where actual Hanoians live and work. There’s a morning market just down the street where vendors know each other’s names, and honestly, watching that daily rhythm was worth the stay alone. The hotel’s breakfast (which is included) leans Vietnamese rather than trying to do everything for everyone, and their phở is legitimately good. Not “good for hotel food” – just good.

The spa treatments are where this place really shines though. I’m usually skeptical of hotel spas, but their massage therapists know their stuff, and the prices are reasonable even if you’re not staying there. After a few days of navigating Hanoi’s beautifully chaotic streets, having that kind of retreat option right in your hotel makes a real difference. The whole place maintains this calm, professional atmosphere that feels genuinely Vietnamese rather than trying to be some generic luxury experience.

Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with over-the-top amenities, but that 8.8 rating makes sense. It’s the kind of place that does the important things really well, and you leave feeling like you discovered something rather than just staying somewhere convenient.

  Hidden gem: cozy hotel hidden inside the neighbourhood. Loved the garden with an open air cafe – staff even kindly provide cable extension to connect your laptop and work from there. Very quiet, clean, excellent spa next door with discounts for hotel guests. Friendly staff.
  
  What could be improved: Basic rooms are small and have windows facing inner court. Breakfast has limited european options, but still quite diverse.

  Exceptionally nice ahd helpful staff. Many room choices. I had to keep extending my stay and lived in 3 different room types, including apartments, which are not advertised. Breakfast buffet is amazing. Hi quality well prepared dishes. The Spa is amazing. Used it almost every day.
