Omina Hanoi Hotel & Travel Overview

You know that sweet spot between staying in Hanoi’s buzzing Old Quarter but not getting completely overwhelmed by motorbike horns at 6 AM? Well, the Omina Hanoi nails it perfectly. I mean, you’re literally on Phở Hàng Gà – which honestly sounds way more intimidating than it is – but the hotel sits just far enough back that you actually get some sleep while still being able to walk to Hoan Kiem Lake in about three minutes.

The thing that struck me first wasn’t the lobby (though it’s pretty sleek for a 4-star place) but how the staff actually remembered my name after one conversation. Not in that overly rehearsed way some places do, but genuinely – like when I stumbled back from exploring the night market around 11 PM, the front desk guy asked if I’d found those bánh mì stalls he’d recommended earlier. Speaking of which, he was absolutely right about the one on Hàng Bè street being better than the touristy spots. The rooms are what you’d hope for but don’t always get – clean without that sterile hotel smell, decent WiFi that doesn’t cut out when you’re trying to video call home, and air conditioning that actually works during Hanoi’s brutal summer months. I stayed in July and honestly expected to be miserable, but the AC kept up just fine. The bathroom’s compact but smartly designed, and there’s enough counter space for all your stuff, which sounds minor until you’re trying to get ready in a shoebox-sized space.

What really sets this place apart though is how it feels like the staff genuinely wants you to experience Hanoi well, not just book tours through them. When I mentioned wanting to see some art galleries, the manager – I think his name was Long – drew me this little hand-sketched map showing three local spots I never would’ve found otherwise. One was literally down an alley so narrow I thought I was trespassing, but it turned out to be this incredible contemporary space showcasing Vietnamese artists. The hotel’s in that perfect zone where you can walk to the major sights without dealing with the absolute chaos of being right on the main drag – you know, where the tour groups cluster and every other storefront is selling the same mass-produced “authentic” souvenirs. From here, you’re close enough to duck into the real Hanoi when you want it, but you can retreat to something calmer when the sensory overload kicks in. Honestly, with a 9.5 rating, I was expecting to find something to complain about just to balance things out, but the worst I can say is that the elevator’s a bit slow and sometimes the hot water takes a minute to kick in. Pretty minor stuff when you’re paying reasonable rates to stay somewhere that feels more like a local recommendation than a generic booking.

What a nice hotel with super friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic location. I would definitely come again. They even upgraded our room for free since a better room was not occupied.

What could be improved: Nothing bad to say to be honest. It's a great deal for the price.

  • Stubbe from United States – 2 June 2025 (9/10)

The staff were amazing and helped with all of our planning with drives to and from the airport. They also gave a ton of recommendations on food, things to do, and places to see, all of which were amazing! They were always kind and helpful too. Also the place was very clean and always tidy from the cleaning crew each day. The bathrooms were great as well. Overall an amazing stay.

  • Daniel from United States – 30 May 2025 (10/10)

This place was perfect. But the best part about it was the staff at the front desk. Amazing people. Helpful. Incredibly friendly. They had all the answers but were also genuinely nice people who were great to interact with. Thank you

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Emnao from France – 29 May 2025 (10/10)

If I could give more than 5 stars, I definitely would — especially because of the amazing staff! A special mention to Viviane, who made my stay extra memorable. Everyone here is so kind and helpful, always making sure guests feel welcome and taken care of. The hotel is perfectly located, close to everything you need, and the rooms are spotless. Everything was just perfect! Thank you so much, and I will definitely come back here if I return to Hanoi

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Glenda from Australia – 27 May 2025 (9/10)

The staff are very helpful and friendly. They efficiently organised our onward transport. It is centrally located in the Old Town.

What could be improved: The room was quite small.

  • Stuart from Japan – 25 May 2025 (10/10)

The location was great, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the morning breakfast was a good start to the day, the rooms were clean and the bed comfortable, overall it was a really nice stay!

What could be improved: The rooms are small, but it is in the heart of the old district so you can't expect large rooms. They also explained the lack of a proper window, but the small window in the room was enough to wake up in the morning.
