Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, but this penthouse on Cha Ca Street honestly surprised me. The name’s a mouthful – they basically crammed every selling point into the title – but you know what? They’re not lying about any of it. Walking up to the top floor (yeah, there’s an elevator, thank god), you immediately get why they call it a penthouse. The terrace opens up to this incredible view where you can actually see Hoan Kiem Lake shimmering between the buildings, and on clear mornings, the whole Old Quarter spreads out below you like a miniature city.

The hot tub on the terrace is honestly the star here – I mean, soaking in warm water while watching the chaos of Hanoi’s motorbikes weaving through the streets below is pretty surreal. The three bedrooms are spacious by Vietnamese standards, and having two bathrooms is clutch when you’re traveling with friends or family. The whole place feels surprisingly quiet considering you’re literally two minutes from Ta Hien – that famous beer street where tourists and locals crowd onto tiny plastic stools every night. I was worried about noise, but the windows are solid, and honestly, by the time the street party gets loud, you’re probably joining it anyway.

What really sold me on this place is how it sits right in the sweet spot of the Old Quarter. You walk out the door and boom – you’re on Cha Ca Street, which locals know for the famous fish dish (definitely try Cha Ca La Vong while you’re here). Two minutes one way gets you to the lake for those peaceful morning walks, two minutes the other way drops you into the beer street madness. The surrounding alleys are packed with street food vendors, and there’s this little coffee shop around the corner that makes incredible egg coffee – the owner knows maybe five words of English but somehow you’ll end up having the best conversation of your trip. The apartment itself feels like a real home rather than a sterile hotel room, with a proper kitchen if you want to grab fresh ingredients from Dong Xuan Market and cook something up. Honestly, for a 4-star rating, it punches above its weight, and that 8/10 rating makes sense when you factor in the location and that killer terrace view.
