Private Apartment-2Bdrs-6pax-Old Quarter Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Old Quarter apartments, and this place on Hang Bong Street actually gets it right. The moment you step inside, you realize someone put real thought into making this feel like an actual home rather than just another tourist crash pad. The two bedrooms are genuinely spacious – I mean, you can actually open your suitcase without doing some weird furniture shuffle dance.
What really sold me on this spot was the location. Hang Bong is one of those streets that’s busy enough to feel authentically Hanoian but not so crazy that you’re dodging motorbikes every time you step outside. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, and honestly, being able to grab morning coffee and watch the tai chi crowds without fighting tourist hordes is pretty perfect. The weekend night market is right there too – you’ll hear the buzz of it from the apartment, but it’s not overwhelming noise, more like this gentle hum of city life that actually helps you sleep.
The apartment itself feels lived-in in the best way possible. The kitchen actually works (revolutionary concept, I know), and they’ve got proper pots and pans, not those sad aluminum things that fall apart when you look at them. The living area has this great mix of Vietnamese touches and practical furniture that doesn’t make you feel like you’re sitting in a museum. Air conditioning works well, which you’ll appreciate when Hanoi’s humidity hits – and trust me, it will. The bathroom’s modern and clean, though the water pressure can be a bit temperamental in the evenings when everyone in the building’s showering. Minor thing, really.
What I found refreshing was how the owners handle the whole experience. Check-in was smooth, no weird key handoffs in random coffee shops or anything like that. They actually know their neighborhood and gave solid recommendations – not the usual tourist trap suggestions but actual spots where locals eat. The building itself is typical Old Quarter style, which means narrow stairs and that particular old Hanoi smell of incense and street food that somehow becomes comforting after a day or two.
You know what really makes this place work? It’s got that sweet spot of being central without being chaotic. You can walk to everything that matters – the cathedral, the night market, decent pho places, those little bia hoi corners where the beer’s cheap and the people-watching is fantastic. But when you want to escape the Old Quarter intensity, you just go upstairs and suddenly you’ve got space to breathe. The windows face the street, so there’s good natural light and you can watch the daily rhythm of the neighborhood unfold below.
For the price point and location, it’s solid. Not fancy, not trying to be something it’s not, just a well-maintained apartment that happens to be in one of the best neighborhoods in Hanoi. Perfect for couples or families who want to experience the Old Quarter properly without sacrificing comfort. The 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s good, reliable, and does exactly what it promises.

The location is perfect for The Water Puppet Theatre ,The Lake, Train Street, and the Old Prison . Also a Night Market and plenty of shops. The apartment was adequate for the price we paid.
What could be improved: There are some very steep stairs to the front door which is a bit difficult with heavy luggage.Christianty from Malaysia – 21 January 2025 (9/10)
