I’ll be honest – when I first walked down Ngõ Trạm looking for Railway Apartment & Spa, I almost missed it. It’s tucked into one of those narrow Hanoi alleys that feels like a secret, just a stone’s throw from the Old Quarter chaos but somehow completely removed from it. You know how some places just have that immediate “oh, this is going to be good” vibe the moment you step inside? This was one of those.

The thing that struck me first was how they’ve managed to create this incredibly serene space in the middle of, well, Hanoi. I mean, you’re literally minutes from Hoan Kiem Lake – I could walk there in my pajamas if I wanted to catch sunrise (and honestly, I did one morning). But inside, it’s like they’ve built this little oasis where the motorbike symphony from the main streets becomes just a gentle hum. The spa element isn’t just tacked on marketing speak either – they’ve actually integrated it thoughtfully throughout the property. Even the common areas have this zen-like quality that makes you want to slow down and breathe deeper.

What really won me over was the attention to detail that you only notice when you’re actually staying somewhere, not just passing through. The staff genuinely remembers your name after day one, and they’ll give you the kind of local recommendations that aren’t in guidebooks – like which bánh mì stall opens earliest (crucial information) or how to navigate the weekend night market without getting completely overwhelmed. The rooms themselves strike that perfect balance between modern comfort and Vietnamese character without feeling like they’re trying too hard. Good water pressure, which honestly can be hit or miss in this part of town, and the beds are actually comfortable – not just Instagram-pretty but genuinely restful.

The location is really the secret weapon here. You’re close enough to walk to all the major Old Quarter attractions, but far enough down the alley that you’re not dealing with the constant street vendor calls or the 5 AM garbage collection symphonies that can wake you up in the more touristy spots. I found myself using it as a perfect base for exploring – grab breakfast at one of the local spots (there’s this incredible phở place about two minutes away that the front desk told me about), spend the day wandering around Hanoi’s wonderfully chaotic streets, then retreat back to the spa facilities in the evening. It’s the kind of place where you can have both the authentic Hanoi experience and actually get some rest, which is harder to find than you’d think. That 9.5 rating isn’t just numbers – it’s earned through all those little moments where things just work the way they should.

  A very spacious room. Very nice, location is great. And the staff is very very friendly.
  
  What could be improved: The soundproofing is not the best. We could hear people screaming in the reception.

  Centrally located in the old quarter. Has a Lift (Elevator). Apartment was very clean and all equipment was brand new. Staff were very helpful. All tours start nearby and a lot of places to have local food and coffee. Walking distance to Train Street and many other attractions. Highly recommend.
  
  What could be improved: Due to a new traffic restriction, cars are not allowed in the street. So you have to get off and pull your bags to the property, but is it a short distance.

  Loved the comfortable beds and quiet room despite of being in an busy area. Close to shopping streets, « Hanoi Hilton », train street, Kiem Lake etc The massage downstairs was also really good! Loved the balcony. Highly recommend.
  
  What could be improved: Being an open shower bathroom a mop or extra floor towels would be an idea to dry the floor.

  New apartment in busy area. So easy to get around. The host offers fantastic recommendations for food and activities. It's not loud tho always travel with ear plugs in case you're sensitive. Second floor so only used the lift with suitcase. I believe there's a second location for the 2 bedroom apartment. Wish I could have stayed longer. Loved Hanoi! Michelin suggested restaurants, the train, trip to Lan Ha in luxury and even made a knife to bring home. Oh, plenty of shopping if that's your thing. Try all the coffee varieties! Wow.
  The apartment could use a hand towel for the kitchen.
