Red Building – Hotel – Hà Nội Overview

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Hanoi, and the Red Building genuinely surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away on Mai Hắc Đế street in Hai Ba Trung district – not exactly the Old Quarter where everyone thinks they need to stay, but honestly? That’s what makes it special. You’re still close enough to walk to the chaos when you want it (maybe 15 minutes to Hoan Kiem Lake), but you actually get to sleep at night without motorbikes revving outside your window at 2 AM.

The building itself is – well, it’s red, obviously – but it’s this warm terracotta shade that somehow doesn’t look tacky against Hanoi’s mix of French colonial and modern architecture. Check-in was surprisingly smooth for Vietnam standards, and the staff actually remembered my name by day two, which is a nice touch you don’t always get at bigger hotels. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than flashy. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything works properly (the AC is a blessing during those humid summer months), and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase – something you can’t take for granted in this city where some “boutique” places are basically glorified closets.

What really won me over was the neighborhood vibe. You’re walking distance from some incredible local eateries that tourists never find – there’s this pho place two blocks down that opens at 5 AM and closes when they run out, usually by 10. The White Rose restaurant is practically next door if you want something fancier, and you can actually get to the train station or airport without the nightmare traffic of cutting through the Old Quarter. I mean, the location isn’t Instagram-perfect like some of those narrow alley hotels, but it’s real Hanoi life without the constant tourist hustle. Plus, there’s actually space for taxis to drop you off properly instead of that whole “walk three blocks with your luggage because the street’s too narrow” situation. The 8.9 rating makes total sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does the fundamentals really well without trying to be something it’s not. You know what I mean? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Lovely place in the middle of the city. It feels close to everything, we even walked to the old city. But the hotel is really quiet, you can use the bath or even cook something. Really nice room and the location was perfect!

    What could be improved: X

  • Leah from Australia – 16 April 2024 (8/10)

Staff at check-in were very helpful. Looked after our bags for 2 nights before our check-in as we went to Phong Nha and we didn't want to take all our bags with us. Location was close to the bus depot

What could be improved: Bed was a little uncomfortable, very firm but we managed to sleep OK. Room was quiet though

  • Eduardo from Brazil – 13 April 2024 (9/10)

O rapaz que faz o atendimento foi excelente, apesar de nem falar inglês.

What could be improved: A Internet mal funcionou. Muito ruim, nesse ponto.

  • Richa from Germany – 1 April 2024 (3/10)

What could be improved: First of all, this hotel and rooms looks nothing like the pictures. Everything in the room is too old . Even the door of the apartment was broken. None of the staff speaks English. If you are looking for a good and comfortable stay with family, dont book this hotel. Kitchen in the apartment was so so dirty

  • Veronique from France – 28 March 2024 (9/10)

Établissement bien situé, à distance raisonnable du centre.
    Propre, calme et confortable
    Accueil agréable.
    Très bon rapport qualité prix

  • Laura from Netherlands – 27 March 2024 (9/10)

Todo, camas, decoración, limpieza internet, todo fue perfecto

What could be improved: Todo me gusto

  • Michele from Malta – 24 March 2024 (7/10)

Good location, apartment was of a decent size although I would say it looks better in the pictures than in reality.

What could be improved: Check in was slow, had to wait some 20 mins for the guy. Also communication was tricky since they do not speak English.
Price was quite expensive compared to other Vietnam prices but maybe Hanoi is just more expensive.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Red Building – Hotel for three nights during my visit to Hanoi, and I must say it exceeded all my expectations in every way possible. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality that instantly made me feel at home.

One of the standout features of Red Building – Hotel is its excellent accommodation. The hotel is impeccably clean and exudes a sense of tranquility that provided the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city center. I found the peaceful ambiance to be incredibly conducive to relaxation, allowing me to unwind and recharge after a busy day exploring Hanoi.

The room itself was spacious and thoughtfully appointed, boasting modern amenities that ensured a comfortable stay. I had also a small kitchenette, although I didn't use it it is convenient for some. Additionally, the provision of plenty of filtered water was a thoughtful touch that added to the overall convenience of the accommodations.

A highlight of my experience at Red Building – Hotel was the exceptional service provided by the receptionist, Ly. Always there with a warm smile and a willingness to assist, Ly made my stay truly memorable. His friendly demeanor and attentiveness to guest needs contributed greatly to the overall welcoming atmosphere of the hotel.

The location of Red Building – Hotel was also ideal, offering a peaceful retreat away from the noise of the city center while still being conveniently close to all the action. The neighborhood was clean and vibrant, with numerous cafe-restaurants nearby to explore. Despite its tranquil setting, the hotel was just a short distance from the center of Hanoi, making it easy to access all the city's attractions.

Overall, I highly recommend Red Building – Hotel. For anyone seeking a quiet and relaxing place in Hanoi, this establishment is the perfect choice. And all comes with a package value for money.

What could be improved: Only I would like to ask for the shower to have better positioning and not need to keep it on hand.
