San Hotel & Pool Overview

You know what surprised me most about San Hotel & Pool? It’s tucked away on Nguyen Chanh Street in Cau Giay, which honestly isn’t where you’d expect to find a gem like this. I mean, most people think they need to stay in the Old Quarter to get the “real” Hanoi experience, but this spot actually gives you something better – you’re close enough to everything that matters without dealing with the constant motorbike chaos and tourist crowds.

The pool is what really sets this place apart, and I’m not just saying that because it’s in the name. It’s actually big enough to do proper laps, which is rare for Hanoi hotels in this price range. The water’s always crystal clear, and there’s this quiet courtyard feeling that makes you forget you’re in the middle of one of Asia’s busiest cities. Early mornings are perfect – around 7 AM you’ll often have it to yourself while the city’s still waking up. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “thoughtfully done” rather than flashy. Everything works (the AC actually gets cold, the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes), and there’s this attention to small details that you notice after a day or two. The beds are genuinely comfortable – not just hotel-brochure comfortable – and the bathrooms have this modern feel without being sterile.

What really sold me on this place was the location, though it took me a couple days to fully appreciate it. You’re about a 15-minute walk to Lotte Tower if you need that big-city shopping fix, but you’re also close to some of Hanoi’s best local eating spots that tourists never find. There’s this incredible bun cha place two blocks over that doesn’t even have a sign in English, and the family running San Hotel actually gave me directions there when I asked about “real Vietnamese food.” The staff, by the way, actually knows their neighborhood – they’re not just reading from a script. When the taxi driver couldn’t find the hotel (happens sometimes with these smaller streets), they stayed on the phone with him until he got there. That’s the kind of place this is. The 9.9 rating makes sense once you’ve been there a few days – it’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Hanoi, but everything it does, it does really well. Plus, you’re getting genuine value here, especially with that pool situation. Just know that it fills up more during Vietnamese holidays, so if you want that peaceful pool experience, plan accordingly.

  Lovely service and great communication with staff. The rooms are clean, stylish and comfortable.

  The hotel is conveniently located, and is also quite close to the shopping center. The staff is friendly, the hotel is of excellent quality, and especially their swimming pool. This will be my first choice when I have a business trip to Vietnam next time.
