You know what struck me first about Scent Premium Hotel? The name actually makes sense – there’s this subtle, clean fragrance in the lobby that somehow manages to feel expensive without being overwhelming. It’s tucked away on Hang Hanh Street, which honestly took me a minute to find even with GPS, but that’s kind of the charm. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can actually sleep at night.

The thing about staying in Hoan Kiem is that most places are either budget hostels or those massive chain hotels that feel like you could be anywhere. This place sits in that sweet spot – it’s got the polished feel of a proper hotel (they actually have a doorman who remembers your name after day two), but it’s small enough that the staff knows whether you prefer your coffee strong or not. The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully designed” rather than just throwing expensive furniture around. Good lighting for reading, outlets where you actually need them, and – this matters more than you’d think – blackout curtains that work. I mean, Vietnamese sunrise is beautiful, but not when you’re dealing with jet lag.

What really won me over was how they handle the little things. The front desk guy (I think his name was Duc?) gave me actual walking directions to the night market instead of just pointing vaguely down the street. When it rained – and it will rain if you’re there during monsoon season – they had umbrellas at the ready without you having to ask. The breakfast isn’t huge, but they do this Vietnamese coffee that’s honestly better than most cafes, and they’ll pack it to-go if you’re rushing out to beat the crowds at the Temple of Literature. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places get this wrong. I spent a couple mornings working from the small seating area near the lobby, and it was perfectly quiet even when tour groups were checking in. That 9.6 rating isn’t inflated – you can feel it in how smoothly everything runs, from housekeeping that doesn’t wake you up to air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing on your roof.

  From the first second of walking through the door, everyone is very warm, friendly and welcoming. This continues with all staff throughout the stay, with room staff, bar and restaurant – especially the breakfast staff who can not do enough for you.

  Could not fault Scent Premium Hotel. The facilities are first class, staff so happy and helpful and the breakfast selection is awesome. So much fresh food to choose from to cater for all nations. Location in the Old Quarter is good. Lovely cocktails/drinks at the Scent Premium Sky Bar with great views. You can't go wrong.
