Serene Boutique Hotel & Spa Overview

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Bat Su Street – it’s this narrow little lane that you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it. But stepping into the Serene Boutique Hotel & Spa was like finding a hidden gem tucked away from all the motorbike chaos that is Hanoi. The lobby hits you with this immediate sense of calm, and I mean, you can actually hear yourself think once those glass doors close behind you.

The location is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re right in the heart of Hoan Kiem, which means you can walk to the lake in about three minutes (I timed it), and all those little coffee shops and street food stalls are literally around the corner. What I love is that despite being so central, Bat Su itself is relatively quiet – well, as quiet as anywhere gets in Hanoi. You’ll still hear the occasional motorbike, but it’s not the constant symphony of honking you get on the main drags like Hang Bac or Hang Gai. The staff seem to really know their stuff too; they gave me directions to this tiny bun cha place that I never would have found otherwise, tucked away in an alley off Hang Manh.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place – clean, well-designed, with that modern Vietnamese aesthetic that doesn’t try too hard. The spa is where this place really shines though. I’m usually skeptical of hotel spas (they’re often just overpriced massage rooms), but their treatment menu actually incorporates traditional Vietnamese techniques, and the therapists know what they’re doing. The whole experience feels authentic rather than touristy, if that makes sense. One thing I appreciated – and this might sound weird – but the water pressure in the shower is fantastic. You know how hit-or-miss that can be in this part of the world, especially in older buildings, but they’ve clearly invested in proper plumbing. The air conditioning works well too, which you’ll definitely need if you’re visiting between May and September.

Check-in was smooth, no drama with the paperwork that sometimes happens at smaller hotels. They’ve got a decent breakfast spread, though honestly, with all the incredible street food right outside, you might want to venture out instead. The pho ga lady who sets up on the corner around 6 AM makes better breakfast than most hotel restaurants anyway. If you’re planning to stay here during Tet or around major holidays, book way ahead – this place gets booked solid, and for good reason. It’s that sweet spot between boutique charm and reliable comfort, without the stuffiness you sometimes get at the bigger international chains. Plus, that 9-point rating isn’t just marketing fluff – they’ve clearly figured out how to make guests happy without breaking the bank.

Both absolutely great at customer service.
They make the hotel and stay much more beautiful

What could be improved: Nothing in particular. May be the breakfast could do with some more vegan choices since many Indians were there in the hotel. That's it
