Solaria Hanoi Hotel Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Solaria Hanoi? I was expecting another cookie-cutter boutique hotel, but this place actually gets the Old Quarter right. It’s tucked on Bao Khanh Street – and if you don’t know the area, that’s one of those narrow lanes that branches off from the main tourist drag but still keeps you in the thick of things. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, but you’re not dealing with the constant motorbike chaos of Hang Bac or Ta Hien streets.
The building itself has this sort of understated elegance that works well in Hanoi – they didn’t try to fake some colonial vibe or go overboard with Vietnamese kitsch. The lobby’s compact but thoughtfully done, with these warm wood tones that somehow make the space feel bigger than it is. Honestly, the staff here impressed me more than I expected. Check-in was smooth (they had my room ready even though I arrived early), and the front desk folks actually knew the neighborhood. When I asked about good pho that wasn’t touristy, the guy didn’t just point me toward some generic spot – he told me about this tiny place on Hang Trong where locals eat, about a five-minute walk away.
The rooms are what you’d hope for in a solid four-star – clean lines, decent space by Old Quarter standards, and they’ve clearly invested in good mattresses and blackout curtains. That last part matters because Hanoi mornings can be… lively. The AC worked properly (not always a given), and I appreciated the little touches like having a proper desk if you need to get work done. The bathroom’s modern without being flashy, though the shower pressure could be stronger – but honestly, that’s pretty standard for this part of the city. What I really liked was the attention to soundproofing. You get some street noise because, well, it’s Hanoi, but it’s not the kind that keeps you awake. The weekend nights can get a bit livelier since you’re close to the backpacker area, but it settles down by midnight usually.
Here’s the thing about the location that makes it work – you’re right in the cultural heart of things without being overwhelmed by it. St. Joseph’s Cathedral is practically around the corner, the weekend night market on Hang Dao is a pleasant stroll, and you’ve got that whole maze of food stalls and cafes within easy walking distance. But when you want to escape the intensity of the Old Quarter, you can actually do it. The lake is right there for morning walks, and you’re close enough to grab a taxi to the more upscale parts of town without it being a big production.
The breakfast spread was better than expected – they do a decent mix of Western basics and Vietnamese options, and the coffee’s actually good. Not life-changing, but good enough that you don’t need to immediately hunt down a cafe. The rooftop area gives you nice views over the neighborhood’s jumble of rooftops, though it’s not huge. Perfect for an evening drink, though – you can watch the controlled chaos of Old Quarter life from above. For what you’re paying and where you are, the Solaria delivers on being a comfortable base for exploring Hanoi without any major compromises.

This was a wonderful hotel, from start to finish. You are greeted with a welcome drink and a piece of cake and I left with a kind offer for my luggage to be transported to my next hotel in Hanoi. The room was very nice and the bathroom was huge! Very comfortable bed. I did not get a chance to try the restaurants but the breakfast was excellent, very good selection, delicious and fresh. I even left with a little goodbye treat which was so kind. I am sorry I can’t remember the names of all the staff but a thank you to Minh who helped me walk to my next hotel with my luggage. Thank you to the whole team! I highly recommend this hotel, you won’t be disappointed.

Friendly, nothing was too much trouble, when one of our travellers accidentally left her bag with her phone and money on the bus, Liam went above and beyond to have it returned.
The front of house and bar staff were excellent, breakfast was amazing, when we went on day trips they made up travelling food packs.
Organising private transfers and tours, location location, we would return in a heartbeat.

Staff members. Incredible hospitality in all sectors. Location is also a plus. Solaria’s spa is also a must.
What could be improved: Just a couple of minor details in the finishing of the rooms. Did not take away from the whole experience, though.Carla from Australia – 22 May 2025 (10/10)
I love everything about this Hotel and have stayed on my past 2 trips to Hanoi and would recommend to anyone travelling to Hanoi. The staff, location, comfort and food are the best
What could be improved: The only thing I don’t like are the small plastic bottles in the bathroom for Shampoo Conditioner and Body Wash. I wish they could be replaced with more environmentally friendly refillable bottles
