Soleil Boutique Hotel Hanoi Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, and honestly? Most of them feel like they’re trying too hard to be something they’re not. But Soleil Boutique Hotel actually gets it right – it’s tucked away on Hàng Bông Street, which is one of those narrow lanes that feels authentically Vietnamese without being completely chaotic. You know what I mean? You’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoàn Kiếm Lake, but you’re not dealing with the tourist circus that comes with staying right on the main drag.

The thing that struck me first was how quiet it gets at night. I mean, this is Hanoi – there’s always some motorbike engine puttering around somewhere – but Hàng Bông is residential enough that you can actually sleep without earplugs. The hotel itself has this sort of understated elegance that works really well… the lobby smells like jasmine (not that overwhelming fake stuff), and they’ve got these beautiful wooden accents that feel substantial, not just decorative. The staff here actually remembers your name after day one, which sounds small but makes a huge difference when you’re trying to navigate a city that can feel overwhelming. They’ll tell you which pho place around the corner is worth the wait (it’s the one with no English sign, by the way) and which streets to avoid during rush hour.

What really sets this place apart is the attention to details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The WiFi works everywhere – and I tested it because I had work calls – the shower pressure is excellent, and there’s enough space to properly unpack without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase. The breakfast situation is solid too; they do this Vietnamese coffee that’s strong enough to wake the dead, and you can sit by the window watching the street vendors set up their stalls. It’s that perfect balance of being immersed in local life without sacrificing comfort. Plus, you’re walking distance from the weekend night market and about fifteen minutes from the French Quarter if you want to switch up the vibe. I stayed here during Tet season when everything gets crazy, and somehow they managed to maintain that calm, professional atmosphere even when half the city was setting off fireworks. That 9.2 rating isn’t just numbers – it’s earned through those little moments when everything just works the way it should.

Breakfast is superb. Staff are attentive, lovely and friendly. It is a peaceful oasis in a very hectic, busy, noisy city. Expected was that the rooms are small but they are fully eqipped with all you need and well appointed. This hotels proximity is amazing, close to everything, train street, note cafe etc., so have fun walking around, and there are some great shops close by too. Made our second stay in Hanoi a great stay and so much better than the first. Thanks Soleil.

  • Nathan from Australia – 3 May 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: We went to the restaurant and waited to be seated after 5 minutes no one had served us so we went next door to the neighbouring hotel and ate.

  • Loretta from Australia – 30 April 2025 (9/10)

Location was great, could walk almost everywhere. Room service was good and plentyful.

What could be improved: Stayed for 3 nights but didn't see the rooftop bar open. Even if it was, there wasn't really anywhere to sit. Tried to eat in at resturant as we were told it was open. Went into it 3 times but nobody appeared, even after calling out. Went to Silk a few doors away instead.

  • Taivo from Estonia – 30 April 2025 (10/10)

Calm place to relax at after exploring the city. We got help in booking the transport to Ninh Binh, they were really supportive with everything. Highly recommended!

What could be improved: Everything was good!
