Super Candle Hotel Overview

So I stumbled across the Super Candle Hotel during my third trip to Hanoi, and honestly? It’s one of those places that just works. You know what I mean – sometimes a hotel tries too hard to be fancy, but this four-star spot on Doi Can street has figured out that sweet spot between comfort and not breaking the bank.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Hanoi at all. Ba Dinh district means you’re close to Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and the Temple of Literature, but here’s the thing most tourists don’t realize – you’re also walking distance from some incredible local pho joints that the guidebooks haven’t discovered yet. There’s this tiny place about two blocks down that opens at 6 AM, and well, let’s just say the hotel’s breakfast is decent but you might want to venture out. The street itself isn’t too crazy with motorbike traffic (by Hanoi standards anyway), so you can actually sleep with the windows cracked open to get that nice cross-breeze going.

What really got me about this place was the attention to small stuff. The lobby smells like lemongrass instead of that generic hotel air freshener, and the elevator – okay, it’s a bit slow, but it’s quiet, which matters when you’re dragging yourself back after a long day exploring the Old Quarter. The rooms are larger than you’d expect for the price point, and I mean actually larger, not just clever furniture arrangement. The AC works properly too, which honestly can be hit or miss in this part of town. I stayed during late September when it was still pretty humid, and my room stayed comfortable without sounding like a jet engine all night. The Wi-Fi is solid throughout the building – I was able to video call home from the 7th floor without any drama.

Staff-wise, they’re genuinely helpful without being overly formal. The front desk guy (I think his name was Minh?) gave me directions to a weekend market that wasn’t in any of my apps, and when I came back with way too many bags of street food, nobody blinked an eye about me eating in the lobby area. Check-in was smooth even though I arrived pretty early – they had my room ready by noon, which saved my jet-lagged self from wandering around with luggage in the heat.

Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the breakfast selection is pretty standard Vietnamese hotel fare, but sometimes you just want a place that does the basics really well. The 8.3 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Hanoi, but everything works, it’s clean, the location gives you options, and you’re not paying resort prices to stay there. If you’re the type of traveler who wants to spend their money on experiences rather than thread count, this place totally delivers.

Reviews of Super Candle Hotel

  • Drashti from Australia – 25 May 2025 (7/10)

Property is at perfect location for those who doesn’t want to stay in old quarter. I didn’t want to stay right in downtown but neither too far from it. We had few hiccups upon checkin but we’ve been heard and issues sorted promptly. Breakfast was extensive but limited options for vegetarian. Convenient store was just across the road.We have used spa centre everyday. They were great. Majority Staff could speak English so easy to communicate. Both rooms had beautiful view. Both bathrooms had all basic amenities. I got bargain rates and I would consider as value for money. Hanoi has lot to explore during day and at night. We couldn’t make most out of hotel stay.

What could be improved: One of the main reason to book this property was its Japanese style swimming pool. Sadly it was under maintenance during our stay. We haven’t been informed beforehand. Reception staff took our complain seriously and tried their best to compensate. As a result, we got early check in too so we can use shower. Vegetarian breakfast options were limited. Water bottle was expensive in hotel. Just get it from across the road. Kitchen didn’t have any cleaning material to clean our dishes. Travel packages offered by hotel was very expensive compared to market’s travel agent.

  • Anup from Kenya – 6 January 2025 (9/10)

The staff were exceptionally friendly, courteous, and honest, going above and beyond by returning our bag left in the restaurant. The breakfast was delightful, offering a wide variety of fresh and tasty options. The location was convenient and well-situated for exploring Hanoi. The facilities were excellent, the location was great, and the overall experience exceeded my expectations.

What could be improved: There was nothing significant that I disliked during my stay.

  • Pei from Singapore – 9 November 2024 (9/10)

Staffs very helpful. I was upgraded to an executive apartment. It is too big with 2 bedroom for me. I requested to have smaller room. Too bad, hotel fully booked. But staff still help to change to a 1 bedroom apartment.

What could be improved: Lift takes too long to arrive. Maybe only 2 lifts so have to wait long.

  • Belinda from Spain – 5 November 2024 (8/10)

Pool food cleanliness comfortable rooms.sitting area outside room.restaurarants

What could be improved: Our shower head was broken.

  • Matilde from Luxembourg – 20 May 2024 (9/10)

    Amazing breakfast

  • Pavel from United Kingdom – 22 April 2024 (9/10)

Was upgraded from deluxe room to a one bedroom serviced apartment. It was a very nice unexpected upgrade, where my room was on a high floor (16th floor) with my own lounge and kitchen as well as internet router for the whole room. Breakfast was perfect and included in my stay which included both a Western and a Vietnamese breakfast with plenty of options to choose from. Great location, easy to order Grab taxi from the app.

What could be improved: Pool area needs to be refurbished soon, as it looks quite outdated. Despite being upgraded to a one bedroom service apartment, the internet router was in the lounge, causing the wifi to be super weak in the bedroom, had to sit in the lounge to get an internet connection and on top of that the connection was quite weak (15mbps). A minibar with drinks and snacks would have been nice given a fridge was included in my upgrade.

  • Joern from Germany – 31 March 2024 (9/10)

Good value for money, breakfast good

What could be improved: bathroom – far from the old town

  • Nicola from Germany – 23 February 2024 (8/10)

Very well equipped hotel, a bit away from the tourist hot spots. We liked that because you got to see more of Hanoi.
Breakfast was very good, staff helpful and friendly.

What could be improved: Not so many restaurants in the area, but plenty of street food.

  • Helen from Australia – 28 January 2024 (7/10)

It was a nice stay, staff were friendly and room was clean and accommodating.

What could be improved: The general feel and facilities felt a little dated. The location wasn't good for us, unfortunately we realised afterwards that staying in the Old Quarter would have been much better. We couldn't find a place for a massage or dinner within walking distance.

  • Jodie from Australia – 23 January 2024 (9/10)

Beautiful hotel! Staff were very accommodating and lovely

What could be improved: Had to take a taxi out to most main areas and it was hard to call a grab or taxi sometimes
