The apartment sits on Phố Chả Cá street, and here’s what’s cool about that – this is the street famous for chả cá lã vọng, that incredible turmeric fish dish that Hanoi’s known for. You’ll smell it wafting up from the restaurants below, especially around dinner time, and honestly it’s not a bad thing to wake up to. The building itself has that narrow, slightly cramped feel that’s typical of Old Quarter properties, but the apartment is actually more spacious than you’d expect from the outside. The 4-star rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but everything works and it’s clean, which is sometimes more than you can say for places in this area.

What really sold me on this place was stepping out onto the tiny balcony in the morning. You can see slivers of the lake between the buildings, and there’s this constant hum of motorbikes and street vendors that somehow becomes soothing after a day or two. The apartment has that lived-in feel – good AC (crucial in Hanoi summers), a kitchenette that’s actually functional, and a shower with decent water pressure. The “18+” part of the name is a bit mysterious – I think it just means it’s more suited for adults than families, maybe because of the narrow stairs and the bar scene right outside your door.

Speaking of bars, you’re about thirty seconds from some of the best bia hoi spots in the city. Bia Hoi Corner is practically around the corner, and if you’ve never experienced sitting on those tiny plastic stools drinking fresh beer for about 50 cents, well, you’re in for something special. The location also means you’re walking distance to Ngoc Son Temple, the weekend night market, and honestly just about everything you’d want to see in the Old Quarter. The 8.2 rating makes sense – guests seem to get that this isn’t about fancy amenities, it’s about being right in the middle of everything that makes Hanoi special. Just be prepared for some noise, especially on weekends when the streets come alive. But honestly, if you wanted quiet, you probably wouldn’t be staying in the Old Quarter anyway.
