Some people might find that annoying, but honestly? It’s the most authentic Hanoi experience you can get. The homestay itself is tucked on Phan Huy Ích street, and while the address might not mean much to first-time visitors, locals know this area well – it’s where real Hanoians actually live and work, not just the touristy stuff. The train track view is genuinely spectacular, by the way. You can actually watch the trains rumble past from your window, and it’s this surreal moment where modern Vietnam literally rolls through these narrow residential streets. The timing is pretty predictable (locals will tell you exactly when to expect them), so you can plan your Instagram shots accordingly – or just enjoy the moment without a camera.

What really sets Tamundi apart from other homestays is how the family running it treats the whole experience. They’re not trying to be a hotel, you know? Mrs. Linh (the owner) actually remembers your name and will ask about your day when you come back from wandering around Hoan Kiem Lake. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but the AC works well (crucial during summer months), and the beds are actually decent quality, not the rock-hard mattresses you sometimes get in budget places. The shared spaces feel lived-in rather than sterile, with family photos on the walls and that slightly worn furniture that’s comfortable rather than Instagram-perfect. I mean, this is a 4-star rating for good reason – they’ve got the basics completely sorted while maintaining that homestay charm that makes you feel like you’re staying with relatives rather than just renting a room. The breakfast situation is particularly good – fresh pho from a vendor literally around the corner, and they’ll walk you there the first morning so you don’t look like a confused tourist. Access to the rest of the city is ridiculously easy from here, though fair warning about the motorbike traffic on the main roads – it takes some getting used to. But that’s Hanoi for you, and staying here puts you right in the heart of it all rather than hidden away in some sanitized hotel district where you miss half the experience.

  What could be improved: On a busy street /area so you have to be ready for busyness as you step out the door . Good sound proofing inside so you don’t hear the noise .

  Really love how convenient the place is to everywhere. We enjoyed shopping around the area too.

  Huge room with lot of plush furniture. Very clean bedding and spotless. Prime location with railway station and train street next to door. Couldn't ask for more. A ceiling fan would have made it a 1000/10 to combat Hanoi's hot and humid weather in April.

  Clean and modern. All the amenities were also great. Large TV, Heater, AC, Bathtub. Nearby to all the touristy locations too.
