The Five Suites Lilas Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Hanoi, but The Five Suites Lilas on Nguyen Bieu caught me off guard – in the best way possible. You know how sometimes you book a place and just hope it’s decent? Well, this one actually exceeded expectations, which honestly doesn’t happen that often anymore.
The location is what really got me. It’s tucked away in Quan Thanh Ward, which means you’re close enough to the Old Quarter madness but far enough to actually sleep at night. I mean, if you’ve ever tried to get rest near Hoan Kiem Lake on a weekend, you know what I’m talking about. From here, you can walk to the Temple of Literature in about ten minutes – I did it every morning for my coffee run to this little place locals frequent just around the corner. The street itself is surprisingly quiet for Hanoi, though you’ll still hear the occasional motorbike convoy (it’s Vietnam, after all). What I loved is that taxi drivers actually knew where it was – no awkward phone calls or wandering around narrow alleys trying to find the entrance.
The suites themselves are spacious by Hanoi standards, and I appreciated that they didn’t go overboard with the colonial French theme like so many places do. The rooms feel modern but not sterile, if that makes sense. The air conditioning actually works properly – crucial during those humid summer months when the city feels like a sauna. Honestly, the bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that stiff neck you sometimes get from hotel mattresses. The bathroom had decent water pressure too, which… well, anyone who’s traveled through Southeast Asia knows that’s not always a given. Check-in was smooth, and the staff spoke good English without that overly formal hotel script you hear everywhere.
Here’s the thing that really stood out though – the breakfast spread was actually thoughtful. Not just the usual sad continental buffing, but proper Vietnamese options alongside Western stuff. I’m talking fresh pho, decent coffee (not the instant nonsense), and fruit that was actually ripe. The dining area has these big windows that let in natural light, so you don’t feel like you’re eating in a basement.
The 9.3 rating makes sense when you consider the details. Like, they have a small elevator (important when you’re on the fourth floor with luggage), the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and there’s actually a decent workspace if you need to get things done. The surrounding neighborhood has character too – plenty of local eateries where you won’t see another tourist, and it’s an easy motorbike ride to the French Quarter if you want to explore.
I’d definitely stay here again, especially if you want to experience Hanoi without feeling like you’re in a tourist bubble. It’s not the cheapest option, but for what you get – the space, the location, the service that doesn’t feel fake – it’s worth the extra money. Just book early if you’re planning to visit during Tet or the cooler months, because places like this fill up fast once word gets out.

The breakfast was good, some improvement can be made in the coffee and tea . rather individual pots rather than a group pot. Staff is lovely and very helpful

Excellent. Very comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Staff were great and accommodating of our requests. Breakfast was lovely and delicious. Hotel must be new as all the upholstery, carpets etc were clean and not stained. Beds were comfy as well. Ten min ride to old quarter but easy to get to. Nice restaurants, cafes and mini marts around the hotel. Highly recommend and we will be back.

Perfect location! Lovely local coffee places and restaurant, takeaways just around the corner, lovely to walk around the lake that we loved them. You have everything at least in your room what you need. Peaceful and quiet in the night. We are so much appreciated for friendly stuff who helped our stay special in Hanoi! Thank you Mr.Tran and all x

Our stay at The Five Suites Lilas in Hanoi was absolutely wonderful. The room was impeccably clean and equipped with truly outstanding furniture. Everything was incredibly comfortable and thoughtfully arranged. The attention to detail was impressive.
The staff at the reception were all very friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. The breakfast was adequate, and we appreciated that we could easily add extra egg variations if desired.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Hanoi.
What could be improved: Everything was perfect! The only thing I would have wished for was some dishwashing liquid and a sponge.Zubaida from Saudi Arabia – 19 February 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: Ceramic stove was difficult to use

The hotel is in a fabulous location. We walked and walked through town. The room is really a full apartment. The kitchen is completely stocked and even has a full size refrigerator and an oven – a rarity in my experience in Asia. It’s such a beautiful place. I will be back.
What could be improved: The staff were oddly distant as though they had somewhere better to be. I’m sure they do but it’s a funny way to treat guests.Jeffrey from Australia – 31 December 2024 (10/10)
Hotel location is great for families, its not as busy as some other parts of Hanoi but still only ~10min car ride from all the popular tourist spots and restaurants. Room is very modern and clean.
Restaurant had a high chair available for infants/toddlers, we also requested a cot in our room for an infant and it was great.
Note the wall sockets take local and EU/US type plugs, an adaptor is needed for AU/UK plugs.Rebecca from United Kingdom – 24 December 2024 (10/10)
Amazing views from our room on the 10th floor
A huge suite on the 10th floor exceeded our expectations, thanks to an upgrade
Very friendly staff who were professional and friendly
What could be improved: It would have helped to either have the washing machine in our room or more than 1 washer / dryer in the communal laundry area
