Look, when I first stumbled across Timescity homestay on Minh Khai Street, I’ll be honest – the name had me scratching my head a bit. It’s got this whole “Happyhouse” thing going on, which sounds almost too cheerful, but you know what? Sometimes the places with quirky names end up being the real gems.

The thing about staying here is that you’re actually in a pretty sweet spot in Hai Ba Trung district. I mean, most tourists just focus on the Old Quarter and call it a day, but this area – it’s where Hanoi actually lives and breathes. You’ve got these tree-lined streets that feel less chaotic than the center, and honestly, walking down Minh Khai in the early morning when the street food vendors are just setting up? There’s something really authentic about it. The homestay itself sits right in the middle of all this everyday Vietnamese life, which I loved. You’ll hear motorbikes starting up at dawn (fair warning), but it’s not the tourist-trap noise – it’s just regular people getting their day started.

What really surprised me was how the owners manage to keep things feeling homey without being too informal. The rooms are clean and comfortable – not fancy, but everything works, which honestly is more than I can say for some of the pricier places I’ve stayed in Hanoi. The 4-star rating feels about right; it’s not luxury, but it’s definitely a step up from backpacker territory. And that 7.8 rating? Yeah, I get it. There are little things that could be better (the WiFi can be spotty during peak hours, and the hot water takes a minute to kick in), but the overall experience just works. The family running the place actually gives you solid recommendations – not the usual tourist traps, but places where they’d take their own relatives. They pointed me toward this incredible pho place about three blocks away that I never would have found otherwise.

The neighborhood itself is pretty walkable, and you’re close enough to the main attractions without being in the thick of the backpacker circus. Bach Mai Hospital is nearby, so there’s always some activity, but it’s not disruptive. What I really appreciated was being able to grab a coffee at one of the local cafes in the morning and just watch the rhythm of the district wake up. You’ll see office workers on their motorbikes, kids heading to school, vendors setting up their stalls – it’s the real Hanoi experience that a lot of visitors miss when they stick to the tourist zones. Plus, getting into the Old Quarter or around the city is easy from here; the main roads connect well, and taxi drivers actually know where you are without the usual confusion.

  Second apartment was ok .
  
  What could be improved: We stayed for 13 NTS not one night
  First apartment was very dirty so asked to be moved.eventualy later in the day we moved to a different block 5mins away that was much better,but still had to clean the kitchen and a little around the apartment.i was then asked for cash which I wasn't prepared for..but after a lot of sorting things out with my family I got the 20 Million dong .and the lady came and collected it.still didn't get the apartment I originally booked.no office to contact so you have to rely on speaking on WhatsApp
