So TrangTrang Luxury Hotel – honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Phố Hàng Dầu looking for the place. I mean, Hanoi’s Old Quarter can be hit or miss with hotels, you know? But this one actually surprised me in the best way. The entrance is sort of tucked between some local shops (there’s this amazing bánh mì cart literally 20 steps from the front door that I hit up every morning), and when you step inside, it’s like stepping into a completely different world from the bustling street chaos outside.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to blend that Vietnamese elegance with actual comfort – and I’m picky about comfort after years of travel disasters. The rooms have this warm, sophisticated vibe without feeling stuffy or trying too hard. You can actually open the windows here, which is huge because so many places in the Old Quarter keep you sealed in with recycled air. Well, just be aware that mornings around 6 AM get lively with motorbike sounds, but honestly? That’s part of the Hanoi experience, and it dies down pretty quickly. The beds are genuinely comfortable too – none of that rock-hard mattress situation you sometimes get in this price range.

The location is what really makes this place shine though. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoàn Kiếm Lake, which means early morning walks before the city wakes up (trust me on this one). But here’s what the typical hotel descriptions won’t tell you: you’re also perfectly positioned to duck into the real local scene. There’s this tiny bia hơi spot around the corner on Hàng Bông that fills up with locals every evening, and the weekend night market on Hàng Đào is close enough that you can pop back to drop off purchases without derailing your whole evening. The staff actually knows this stuff too – they gave me directions to places I never would have found otherwise, and not just the touristy recommendations everyone gets.

I’ve stayed in plenty of four-star places that feel generic or impersonal, but TrangTrang has this authentic energy that’s hard to fake. Maybe it’s because they’re not trying to be something they’re not? The lobby has this lived-in elegance, the kind where you want to actually sit and plan your day instead of rushing through. Check-in was smooth (they had my room ready early, which saved my jet-lagged self), and the whole place just feels like someone who actually cares about hospitality is running things. The 9.1 rating makes total sense when you experience it – it’s not perfect, but it gets all the important stuff right while giving you that genuine Hanoi experience you can’t get from the big international chains. If you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with character while still having reliable WiFi and hot water, this is your spot.

  Great location in the French quarter. Close to the bus station as well. The staff are very friendly and help to sort out excursions. They arranged our trip to ha long bay the evening before we went and it was the highlight of our time in northern vietnam.

  the staff is very helpful, when you come here you don't need to prepare anything, you will be perfectly planned if needed. also we watched a domestic football match at a stadium not too far away and the staff helped us book tickets in a very nice location. overall everything was fine and we will come back.

  I really like this hotel, it’s located at the heart of Old Quarter but it still keeps the quiet. All staff were friendly and acknowledged. This is new hotel, Good facilities, breakfast is delicious as well. They have everything you need so don’t hesitate to ask them.
