Trinh’s House – Hang Vai Overview
You know what struck me first about Trinh’s House? It’s tucked right on Hang Vai Street in the absolute heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, but somehow it doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping in the middle of a tourist circus. I mean, you’re literally steps from Hoan Kiem Lake – and I’m talking actual steps, not that “short walk” nonsense hotels usually claim. The building itself has this narrow, traditional Vietnamese architecture that makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s actual home rather than some sterile hotel chain.
The thing about staying here is you get this perfect balance of being in the thick of everything without the chaos completely overwhelming you. Hang Vai Street has this mix of local shops and cafes that tourists haven’t completely discovered yet, so you’ll see actual Hanoians going about their day alongside visitors trying to figure out how to cross the street without getting hit by a motorbike. The rooms are honestly well-appointed for a 4-star place – nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s clean, which honestly is half the battle in this part of the city. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, too, which is rarer than you’d think. They’ll tell you which pho place opens earliest (important information) and how to navigate the weekend night market crowds without losing your mind.
What really sells this place for me is the location’s practicality. You’re close enough to the lake that you can do those early morning walks when the locals are doing tai chi, but you’re also within stumbling distance of the night market and all those narrow alleyways packed with street food. The 8.2 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect, and honestly the elevator is tiny even by Vietnamese standards, but it delivers on what matters most when you’re trying to experience Hanoi properly. The morning sounds from the street might wake you up if you’re not used to city noise, but that’s part of the charm, isn’t it? You’ll hear the vendors setting up, motorbikes puttering by, and that general hum of a city that’s been doing this dance for centuries. If you want sanitized and quiet, stay near the airport – but if you want to actually feel like you’re in Hanoi, this spot gets it right.

Reviews of Trinh’s House – Hang Vai

We loved our stay. The bed was comfortable, softer than most beds in the country which is my preference. The AC worked very well and it felt spacious. The location is close to many restaurants and coffee shops and a 7 min walk to the lake.

Amazing location. Very spacious. Ideal for a big group of friends. Host was super helpful.
What could be improved: No issuesDiana from Poland – 24 February 2025 (9/10)
Good location, in the middle of everything, smooth communication with the owner via WhatsApp, good value of money
What could be improved: Sometimes it got noisy during the nightMarycris from Philippines – 2 December 2024 (7/10)
I like the location. It’s walking distance to Hanoi Lake, Old Quarter and Hanoi Night Market.
What could be improved: The water in the shower felt a little odd. Not sure if the water is recycled from the laundry shop on the ground floor. But the soap is not lathering.
Also, if you are light sleeper, I won’t recommend this place since you can hear the noises outside.Rin from Australia – 20 November 2024 (8/10)
The place was beautiful with a wonderful outdoor bath. The bed was very comfortable and it was in a very central location. The owner was very kind and very attentive too.
What could be improved: The bathroom smelled a little stale, and there was loud construction outside. However, these were not major issues overall.Debi from New Zealand – 19 November 2024 (7/10)
Great location, very central within easy walking distance to lots of activities. Room decor very nice & good to have a separate seating area
What could be improved: I was not provided with checkin details before arriving. A bit of a hassle getting into the room initially. Very noisy at night. I have no idea where the garden terrace is – presumably on the roof..Annu from India – 17 November 2024 (8/10)
The location and how well equipped the homestay was

Very good localisation in the middle of the Old Quarter.
Very good reactivity on Whatsapp too.
What could be improved: The bathroom wasn’t very cleanElizabeth from Germany – 12 July 2024 (8/10)
The room was beautiful and very cozy.
What could be improved: The music from the downstairs laundry shop was pretty loudHarkirt from United Kingdom – 28 April 2024 (7/10)
The terrace with the bathtub is nice and pretty. You can enjoy your morning coffee there while your partner is showering. But it’s 2 floors above so you will have to take separate staircase to get there.
What could be improved: The room is actually small. Not enough space for 2, a little dark inside too. Absence of a lift when you have a heavy suitcase is also not great. It’s more like airnbn, it’s not a hotel, you will not have staff to talk to directly.
