Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station Overview

You know what struck me first about the Tru by Hilton Hanoi Station? It’s actually quiet despite being right on Tran Hung Dao Street – and if you know anything about Hanoi traffic, that’s honestly impressive. I mean, this is one of the main arteries cutting through Hoan Kiem District, so you’d expect the usual symphony of motorbike horns starting at dawn, but somehow the soundproofing really works here.

The location is pretty brilliant when you think about it. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the train station (hence the name), which is perfect if you’re doing the whole Ha Long Bay day trip thing or heading up to Sapa. But here’s what the booking sites don’t tell you – you’re also stumbling distance from some of the best street food in the city. There’s this little bun cha place tucked into an alley just off Ly Thuong Kiet that locals queue up for, and honestly, I would never have found it if I hadn’t been staying right here. The Old Quarter starts just a few blocks north, but you get to avoid the tourist chaos while still being close enough to wander over for dinner.

The hotel itself feels refreshingly… normal? I don’t mean that in a bad way – it’s just that so many places in Hanoi try too hard to be either ultra-modern or fake-traditional. This one just gets on with being a solid, comfortable hotel. The lobby has this clean, contemporary vibe without being sterile, and the staff actually seem to know the neighborhood well (they pointed me toward a great coffee shop on Hai Ba Trung that I definitely wouldn’t have discovered otherwise). The rooms are what you’d expect from a newer Hilton property – everything works, the bed is comfortable, decent shower pressure, and the air conditioning can actually handle Hanoi’s humid summers. Actually, I was there in July and never felt like I was fighting the climate, which is saying something.

What I really appreciated was the breakfast situation – it’s not trying to be some elaborate international buffet, just solid options including Vietnamese coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine. The gym is small but functional, and there’s a business center that’s actually useful if you need to print boarding passes or sort out travel documents. Check-in was smooth even though I arrived pretty early (around 10 AM), and they managed to have a room ready, which honestly saved my first day since I’d been on an overnight flight.

The whole area comes alive differently depending on when you’re out and about. Early morning, you’ll see the locals doing tai chi in the small park spaces, grabbing banh mi for breakfast. Evening brings a different energy – families on motorbikes, street vendors setting up, that particular Hanoi buzz that’s hard to describe but impossible to miss. Being on Tran Hung Dao puts you right in the middle of it all without feeling overwhelmed. It’s sort of the sweet spot between being in the thick of things and having a quiet place to retreat to at the end of the day.

Its just across the train station. Ideal location if you are going to Sapa. They allowed us to stay at their lounge before and after check-in hours.

  • Sandro from Germany – 13 March 2025 (9/10)

Super friendly people at the hotel. Perfectly clean room. Nice breakfast. The location is absolutely perfect for short trips by feet. The best thing is the breathtaking view from the higher floor's.

What could be improved: There's nothing to say….

  • Stephen from Australia – 4 March 2025 (8/10)

  • Mark from Australia – 21 December 2024 (9/10)

And convenient as we were catching the train to Ninh binh great bed

  • Geok from Singapore – 14 December 2024 (7/10)

Clean younger vibe nothing too complicated

What could be improved: The constant announcements from across the station started at 5am ……staff weren’t too sure in communications

  • Saif from Oman – 9 November 2024 (9/10)

Breakfast was very local, with very limited choices.

    What could be improved: Breakfast

  • Britain from United States – 8 November 2024 (9/10)

The room was good with a comfortable bed, A/C, and overall good value for the price. Very clean and convenient location in Old Quarter. The staff were all very courteous and helpful. Everyone spoke at least some English so very little trouble communicating if you don't speak Vietnamese.

What could be improved: There was construction going on just outside my window. Not the hotel's fault, but it will be a little noisy (the noise stopped by about 11 pm) and unsightly until the construction is done.

  • Peter from Australia – 8 July 2024 (9/10)

Great location to take overnight train to Sapa, directly across the road from station. Great room and features. Nice bar/restaurant. 10 minute walk to train street.

What could be improved: Everything great just a little far from old quarter
