Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Hanoi’s Old Quarter, but this apartment on Hang Luoc Street is something else entirely. The first thing that hits you isn’t the view (though we’ll get to that) – it’s the location. You’re literally in the thick of everything that makes this neighborhood incredible, and I mean everything. The morning coffee vendors are setting up their tiny plastic stools right outside your door, the motorbike symphony starts around 6 AM, and honestly? You’ll love every chaotic minute of it.

The train street view is the real showstopper here, obviously. I mean, you’ve probably seen the Instagram photos, but experiencing it from your own window is completely different. The train comes through twice a day – once in the morning around 7:30 and again in the evening around 7:20 (though Vietnamese train schedules are more like suggestions, you know?). What the photos don’t show you is how the whole street transforms in those moments before the train arrives. Shop owners casually move their displays, people step into doorways like it’s choreographed, and then this massive thing just rumbles through what feels like someone’s living room. From apartment 301B, you get this perfect elevated angle that makes you feel like you’re watching some incredible street theater unfold.

But here’s what actually makes this place special beyond the obvious train novelty – it’s genuinely well-thought-out. The apartment itself feels like someone who actually travels designed it, not some corporate hotel chain. There’s real counter space in the kitchenette (try finding that in most Hanoi accommodations), the shower has decent water pressure, and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing. The bed is comfortable enough that you won’t wake up planning your chiropractor visit, and there are enough outlets in useful places that you won’t be charging your phone in the bathroom. Small things, but they add up when you’re trying to actually live somewhere for a few days.

The Old Quarter location means you’re walking distance from everything worth seeing – Hoan Kiem Lake is maybe eight minutes on foot, the weekend night market practically happens outside your door, and you’ve got more authentic pho options within a two-block radius than most people try in a lifetime. What I really appreciated was how the host clearly knows this area inside and out. They left specific recommendations for the best banh mi spot (it’s the one with no English sign, naturally) and warned me about which streets flood during heavy rain season – the kind of local intel that actually matters.

The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there. It’s not trying to be some luxury resort experience – it’s trying to drop you right into the heart of Hanoi life while still giving you a comfortable place to retreat to. The train noise might bother light sleepers, sure, but if you’re the kind of person booking a place specifically for the train street view, you probably knew that going in. This isn’t a quiet suburban hotel experience; it’s Hanoi at full volume, and that’s exactly the point.

  Location was very good, central and close to everything. Supermarkets nearby.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment was nice, but it would benefit from a deep clean in some areas.
  The electrical wiring also needs to be tidied up. There are lots of exposed junctions.
  The apartment is in an alleyway and part of a residential block.
  We found the neighbours very noisy during our stay.

  Enjoyed our stay at this apartment. It is well equipped- has everything needed for a short term stay- washing machine, electric hot plate, pots, pans, microwave, refrigerator, smart TV with Netflix, high speed WiFi. Clean, comfortable and centrally located, walking distance to major attractions. The host Henry and Ann were very prompt in responding to our queries. One thing to note, there is only one window in the kitchen that opens up for fresh air, all other windows are sealed with glass. Bring your own basic groceries tea/coffee/sugar/oil etc.

  Ein super modernes und gut ausgestattetes Appartment direkt im Old Quarter. Man wohnt direkt inmitten der Einheimischen, und kann alle Sehenswürdigkeiten fußläufig erreichen. Besonders gut hat uns auch die eingerichtete Küche gefallen, sodass wir zur Abwechslung auch mal wieder selbst kochen konnten. Der Smart TV mit Netflix-Zugang runden das Ganze noch ab. Die Wohnung besteht aus einem Wohnzimmer mit offener Küche, einem angrenzenden Bad und einem Schlafzimmer. Ideal für Paare geeignet oder zu dritt, wenn jemand auf der Couch oder dem auf Wunsch zur Verfügung gestellten Faltbett schlafen möchte. Perfekt gemacht haben unseren Aufenthalt aber die sehr netten Vermieter und die reibungslose Kommunikation mit Ihnen. Aufgrund unseres längeren Aufenthalts (4 Nächte) haben wir zudem noch ein Taxi zum Flughafen organisiert und bezahlt bekommen. Außerdem fährt mehrmals am Tag direkt vor dem Fenster ein Zug entlang, für Zugliebhaber oder Enthusiasten der Train-Street sicher ein großes Plus!
  
  What could be improved: Das optionale Faltbett ist etwas hart, dafür ist das Doppelbett im Schlafzimmer sehr weich. Wir hätten uns was dazwischen gewünscht, ist aber Kritik auf hohem Niveau. Uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen!
