The thing about this place is that it sits in what locals call the “new Hanoi” – you’re technically outside the old quarter chaos (which, let’s be honest, can get exhausting), but you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere either. I mean, you’ll need to grab a taxi or bike to get to Hoan Kiem Lake, but that’s maybe 20 minutes depending on traffic, and sometimes it’s nice to come back to somewhere that actually feels calm. The Ocean Park complex itself is this whole self-contained world with artificial beaches – sounds weird, I know, but it’s actually kind of impressive when you see families splashing around. The hotel capitalizes on this whole resort-within-the-city vibe pretty well.

What really got me was the attention to detail in the rooms. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel marketing comfortable), and they’ve got this modern Vietnamese aesthetic going on that doesn’t feel forced or touristy. The bathrooms are spacious – important when you’ve been walking around Hanoi’s humid streets all day – and the water pressure is consistent, which honestly can be hit or miss in this part of town. One small thing that bugged me: the air conditioning units are a bit loud, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs. But the views from the higher floors make up for it, especially at sunset when you can see across the Red River delta.

The staff here actually seem to know what they’re doing, which isn’t always a given with newer properties. Check-in was smooth, and when I had questions about getting to Ba Dinh Square, the front desk guy drew me a little map showing which streets to avoid during rush hour – that kind of local insight you can’t Google. Parking is free and plentiful, which is a blessing if you’re planning to rent a motorbike and explore the outskirts of Hanoi. The breakfast spread is decent Vietnamese and international options, though nothing that’ll blow your mind. But there’s a great pho place about a five-minute walk away on the main road that locals actually eat at, so don’t feel tied to hotel dining.

Look, this isn’t going to be your typical “authentic Hanoi experience” if you’re looking to stumble out your door into centuries-old street food stalls. But if you want a solid base that’s modern, clean, and gives you easy access to both Hanoi proper and some unique attractions you won’t find anywhere else in Vietnam, VINHOME OCEAN PARK GIA LÂM delivers on its promises. It’s particularly great for families or anyone who wants to experience Hanoi without being overwhelmed by it 24/7.

  Found key in basement eventually.
  But she sent photos of diff apartment (no communication re beds). Turns out only 1 double bed for 3 people…
  Double Bed hard as a rock! & tall daughter slept on hard sofa.
  No blanket. '1' tea stained doona.
  No restaurants around, so snack dinner…
