Wyndham Sky Lake Resort and Villas Overview
So here’s the thing about Wyndham Sky Lake Resort – it’s one of those places that actually lives up to being called a resort, which honestly surprised me given how close it is to Hanoi. You’re out in Chuong My District, maybe 45 minutes from the Old Quarter depending on traffic (and let’s be real, there’s always traffic), but once you get there, it feels like you’ve escaped to somewhere completely different.
The property sits right on Van Son Lake, and I mean right on it – you can literally hear the water lapping from most of the rooms. What struck me first was how much space they have here. The villas are spread out enough that you’re not hearing your neighbors through thin walls, which is honestly refreshing after staying in some of Hanoi’s more cramped hotels. The grounds are pretty well-maintained too, though I noticed they could use a bit more attention to the landscaping near the restaurant area. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful – not just going through the motions – and they actually knew the answers to questions about getting around the area, which you’d be surprised how rare that is.
You know what really works about this place? It’s got that resort feel without being completely disconnected from Vietnamese culture. The architecture doesn’t try too hard to be Western, and the restaurant actually serves decent local dishes alongside the international stuff. I spent most mornings just walking around the lake – there’s a proper path that takes maybe 20 minutes if you’re not rushing. Early morning is definitely the best time for this before it gets too warm and before the day-trippers start showing up. Speaking of which, weekends can get a bit busy with families from Hanoi, so if you’re looking for total quiet, aim for weekdays. The pool area is solid – clean, good size, though the poolside service can be hit or miss depending on how busy they are.
I’ll be honest, the 7.9 rating makes sense to me. It’s not perfect – the WiFi in some of the villas can be spotty, and the spa services are fine but nothing extraordinary for a five-star place. But what they do well, they do really well. The location gives you that getaway feeling while still being close enough to pop back into the city if you want to hit up the night markets or grab some proper pho. Plus, if you’re planning to explore some of the pagodas and temples in the western part of Hanoi province, you’re actually in a pretty good spot here rather than fighting traffic from the city center. It’s one of those places where you can genuinely relax without feeling like you’re missing out on experiencing Vietnam – just a different, quieter side of it.

Reviews of Wyndham Sky Lake Resort and Villas
Alberto from United States – 7 April 2025 (9/10)
What could be improved: Breakfast quality could be improved particularly with breads and pastries.
Kevin from United Kingdom – 18 March 2025 (9/10)
The hotel is attached to sky lake golf course , staff are excellent especially Kevin the restaurant manager, always tgere to help with anything to make your stay the best it can be. He organised taxis, made recommendations of great Vietnamese door to try from the menu, helped with golf bookings, he even invited me to his house to meet his family so I could get a glimpse into his life living in rural Vietnam, Kevin as usual went above and beyond.
The rooms / apartments are spacious, clean and modern. Restaurant severs amazing food, I can't wait till I return for my second visit.

The pool vila is spacious, clean.
All staff we met were very nice and kind.
There's golf course right next to the resort. Nice green view and good to walk as well.Yonghee from Vietnam – 21 October 2024 (4/10)
What could be improved: I strongly recommend you that your Resort have to pay attention to room maintenance.
Sometimes no hot water for shower, and sometimes there is something wrong with the front door, so the alarm sounds all evening and you can not sleep.
Also, no one answers the phone(at mid night) and feedback is slow on request. We hope to accommodate more customers and raise the level of service for frequent visitors.
(I've visited about 10 times.)Trevor from Qatar – 21 July 2024 (1/10)
Leaving was the best thing and knowing I'll never go back
What could be improved: Really a hotel to avoid, please read other review as management always promised but obviously never taken to heart. 5 stars maybe on designers table only reaches 2 stars, not linked to the golf course so minimal benefit to stay, staff are rude and ill disciplined. Does not cater for western taste.
The condition is subpar, still a building site and health hazard the pool next to our villa had fish and a mosquito infestation that came into our villa. Water not turned on. Spa understaffed so only do 1 at a time. Food made of the cheapest cuts possible, breakfast meant to be buffet but wasn't had list to choose from, made us ill. Highly recommend finding somewhere else and get taxi to the golf course.James from Singapore – 1 July 2024 (5/10)
Everything was good except for food. We tried grilled beef and kimchi soup and they were really really disapointed. The beef is smelly and too chewy. The staff simply said: oh, that's they way it is.

Cleanliness
Private Pool
Breakfast – good for price
Efficient Service
Beautiful Villa and friendly staff especially male receptionist and housekeeping.
late check out offered.
What could be improved: Staff seemed confused on arrival, the taxi roamed around and no one was clear about where the reception is.
Female receptionist staff needs training on how to be professional and to be aware that some foreign guests understand Vietnamese, talking about my hair being fake and laughing at my appearance is very rude just because I look different than you. (Race is a very sensitive topic) Unfortunately some of us are happy with who we are.
On arrival the receptionist said we booked a villa with no private pool and asked me for proof…how does the hotel see different? I showed proof and was informed yes I booked one with a private pool.
There are limited to no snacks in the minibar, cup noodles are spicy and the hotel over charges for noodles and beer, noodles with the same price as beer.
Hotel in room dinining menu expensive for what it’s worth, ordered pizza received a pie with pizza filling, crunchy with a size of a pizza for at a five star hotel for 330k/ 12$.
We ended up eating noodles and waiting for breakfast
so we could eat proper food without being over charged. The child couldn’t eat spicy noodles, had to eat them plain 🙁Nick from Australia – 28 February 2024 (9/10)
Certainly a great place to stop for golf
Excellent position and 5 star facility
What could be improved: It was really pretty goodPierre from France – 6 June 2023 (6/10)
The location close to golf course
What could be improved: The food at restaurantJulie from Thailand – 9 April 2023 (9/10)
The resort is very remote so you would need a car. I had a 1 bed 1 livingroom apartment, new and spotless clean, great views of golf course.
What made it for me was the staff, excellent friendly and very professional.
I played golf every day, 2 courses probably best in Vietnam
What could be improved: The location , would be nice if something to walk to
