You know what struck me first about Elegant Suites Westlake? It’s how they managed to find this perfect sweet spot on Dang Thai Mai Street – close enough to the lake that you can actually walk to the water in about three minutes, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos that hits some of the main Tay Ho strips. I mean, you’re literally a short stroll from the weekend night market, but when you’re back in your room, it’s surprisingly quiet.

The suites themselves are honestly impressive – and I don’t say that lightly after staying in way too many places that call themselves “elegant” but deliver particle board furniture and scratchy sheets. These rooms actually live up to the name, with these gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows that frame West Lake perfectly (well, if you get a lake-view room, which you should definitely request). The bathrooms are what really got me though – proper rainfall showers and this beautiful marble work that feels authentically luxurious, not like they’re trying too hard. The kitchenettes are fully functional too, which is clutch if you want to grab some fresh ingredients from the local market on Xuan Dieu Street and cook something up instead of dining out every night.

What I really appreciate is how the staff seems to actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about good pho places that aren’t tourist traps, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a generic list – he walked me to the lobby entrance and pointed down the street to this tiny place where locals line up every morning. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t fake. The location puts you right in the heart of Tay Ho’s expat community, so you’ve got access to international restaurants and cafes (honestly, some of the best coffee in Hanoi is within walking distance), but you’re also close enough to the Old Quarter that a quick taxi ride gets you there in about 15 minutes during off-peak hours. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re renting a motorbike – there’s limited space out front – but most guests are walking or using Grab anyway. The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s one of those places that gets the details right without being stuffy about it.

  Spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed our apartment was exactly what we needed. The washing machine was a nice surprise at the mid point of our two week trip to Vietnam.
  The pool was amazing and very welcome as it was 38 degrees Celsius when we arrived!

  The Reception staff is great. They are the face of the hotel. Very friendly, helpful, and polite. The hotel is clean. I stayed on level 8, and the suites are a decent size. The swimming pool is very nice. My 5 and 6-year-old kids loved it. There is a playing centre for kids. I love the pool table area.
  
  What could be improved: 15-20 minutes drive from the Old Quarter. The bathroom needs bins and carpets to avoid the floor getting wet. kitchen need a bigger bins.
