The entrance is pretty understated – just this sleek glass door between a pho joint and a tailor shop – but once you step inside, it’s like entering a completely different world. The lobby has this modern spa vibe with dark wood and soft lighting, and I mean, the smell of lemongrass essential oils hits you immediately.

The location is really what makes this place work. Ngo Huyen is one of those Old Quarter streets that locals actually use – not just a tourist trap – so you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake but without the chaos of the main drag. I stayed here during Tet season (probably not the smartest timing), and while the area got busy, the hotel itself stayed surprisingly quiet. The rooms are compact but thoughtfully designed – they’ve managed to fit everything you need without making it feel cramped, which is honestly impressive given how narrow these Old Quarter buildings are. The bathroom is where they really splurged though; the rain shower has better water pressure than my apartment back home, and the spa products smell incredible.

Here’s the thing about the service – it’s hit or miss depending on who’s working. The morning staff clearly know their stuff and can arrange motorbike rentals or restaurant reservations without breaking a sweat, but the evening crew seemed less experienced when I was there. Not a deal-breaker, just something to keep in mind. The spa downstairs is actually worth trying if you’ve been walking around Hanoi all day (which, let’s be honest, you probably have). I got a massage after spending hours wandering through the weekend night market, and it was exactly what I needed. The breakfast situation is pretty standard Vietnamese hotel fare – pho, banh mi, some Western options – but the coffee is legitimately good, and they serve it on this little rooftop terrace where you can watch the street come alive in the morning.

What I really appreciated was how they handled the practical stuff. They stored my luggage without any fuss when I arrived early, the WiFi actually worked throughout the building, and they had umbrellas available during the rainy season – small touches that matter when you’re navigating a new city. The 7.8 rating feels about right; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s solid, comfortable, and genuinely well-located for exploring both the touristy parts of Hanoi and the more authentic neighborhoods just a few blocks away.

  Nice hotel with clean room and rooftop bar located in the Old Quarter close to everything, cafes, restaurants, travel agents etc. Some great street food stalls nearby. Very helpful staff.
