alley homestay_Liễu Giai Overview
You know what struck me first about alley homestay_Liễu Giai? It’s tucked away in this narrow lane off Liễu Giai Street that I almost walked past twice before spotting the small sign at number 33. I mean, Ba Dinh district has tons of these hidden gems, but this one actually delivers on that whole “local experience” thing without making you feel like you’re roughing it. The owners clearly put thought into this place – it’s got that 4-star polish but still feels like someone’s home, which honestly is harder to pull off than you’d think.
The location is pretty sweet if you know Hanoi at all. Cống Vị ward is one of those areas where actual Hanoians live and work, not just the tourist bubble around the Old Quarter. You’re maybe a 10-minute walk from the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (though honestly, who needs to visit that more than once), but more importantly, you’re right in the thick of real neighborhood life. There’s this incredible phở place two alleys over that doesn’t even have a proper name – just look for the blue plastic stools and the line of motorbikes. The woman who runs the homestay actually told me about it, which is the kind of insider tip you don’t get at the big hotels. And here’s something practical nobody mentions – parking a car around here is basically impossible, but motorbike parking is no problem, and you’re close enough to the main roads that Grab drivers can actually find you.
What really sold me on this place, though, is how quiet it gets at night. You’re in the middle of Hanoi but tucked back in this residential pocket where the biggest noise is usually just families talking on their balconies or someone’s TV. The rooms themselves are honestly better than I expected – clean lines, decent air conditioning that actually works (trust me, this matters in Hanoi summers), and beds that don’t feel like sleeping on concrete. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious too, which is rare in these converted houses. I stayed during Tet season when everything in the city goes a bit crazy, and while you could hear the festivities from the main streets, the homestay itself stayed peaceful. The 8.5 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be the Metropole, but for what it is, they’ve really nailed it. If you want to experience Hanoi like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through, this little place on Liễu Giai delivers without any of the usual homestay compromises.

One of the best value hotels you will find in Hanoi. Room is big, spotless, and light. Big fridge. Real cosy blanket for winter. Nice powerful hot shower. Clear instructions for check-in. The highlight was the awesome 'egg chair' to chill in – makes such a difference having a big comfy chair in a room.
Oh yeah and the location is perfect for anyone not wanting to spend their time in the touristy old quarter. You're close to West Lake, and some other small lakes with cafes nearby. Obviously, you're surrounded by great places to eat too
Can't ask for anything more!
What could be improved: Honestly can't fault the placeHanna from Poland – 11 June 2024 (9/10)
Everything was great. For that price I didn't expect such a good standard. Everything clean, as on photos, there were towels, soap, paper etc. The location is in the famous business street in Hanoi. It is close to big lake, near restaurants. It costs about 1-2 usd dollars to get to the city centre (old quater) by grab taxi scooter, and 2-3 usd dollars by grab taxi car, it is about 10-15mins. There are also buses which costs less than 0,3$ to old quater and it takes about 20-25min by bus.
What could be improved: The only problem was the fact that owners don't have WhatsApp so I hope that they will install WhatsApp after reading my opinion 🙂 I had a problem to get into apartment because my booking.com app was stuck and I couldn't receive their messages with instruction how to get into apartment by code, so if you have the same situation, you need to install Zalo app (similar to WhatsApp).
But I wish owners will create account on WhatsApp 🙂Fouweather from United Kingdom – 26 January 2024 (4/10)
Location was great, room felt homely, nice thick duvet, free washing facilities I was given lots of free water which was great! Was provided toiletries, a kettle, fridge, hair dryer which was handy, there’s a little egg chair in the room which is adorable & so so comfy, lovely room decorations and a nice owner.
What could be improved: The shower was a drizzle, would have been better off showering in the sink, it was FREEZING! No heating and the room was at a constant 8 degrees it made me ill, check in said 11-12 I messaged to say I was leaving at half past 11 and she told me she wanted her room by 11, staircase is a little narrow so not ideal if you have a lot of luggage.Richard from United Kingdom – 18 December 2023 (1/10)
The WiFi was good
What could be improved: Where do I start
1/ the location on the site is 4.5 miles from the actual homestay.
2/ the owner messaged me at 6pm asking to come and pick up payment. I was out enjoying the City. I said the morning would be better, 8am banging on the door. I was sleeping so I said go away, repeated banging until I answered.
3/ eventually I got back to sleep, some guy tried walked in the room at 9am saying sorry wrong room.
4/ 11am the cleaner walks in the room while I’m in the shower. Which by the way while hot I can pee harder than the water flow.
I stayed one night and would never again. The worst stay in Asia.
After telling the owner at 8am I travelled 600kms by bike yesterday I needed to sleep I got a message back saying “your problem not mine” unbelievably inconsiderate to a guest paying to sleep at their accommodation.
Finally the nail in the coffin, check out is at 12. I get a message at 11.30 saying can you leave nowAnders from Denmark – 7 December 2023 (5/10)
Nice and cosy
What could be improved: The remote for the AC was removed and when confronted her she just said not in the summer season. Don't understand why it as info for the room.
She wanted to meet to get the money when it was dinner time or really late evening.
Not the best to manage a place.Сергей from Russia – 8 November 2023 (9/10)
Good location. There are winmart and bus stops nearby. The road to all significant places will take a little time.

Great location, 10min walking to Lotte Center where I have some work there. Helpful and friendly staff. Many choices of food stores around. Auto check in/out. Strong free wifi. The room is clean and exactly looks like in the pics, with simple and cute decoration.
