Apricot Hotel Overview

You know what struck me first about the Apricot Hotel? It’s tucked right into the heart of Hang Trong Street, which honestly feels like stepping into old Hanoi’s living room. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake – not the touristy part everyone photographs, but the side where locals actually sit and play chess in the evenings. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “look at me” like some of those flashy new places sprouting up around the city.

The lobby actually surprised me because it manages to feel both sophisticated and welcoming – there’s this warm wood and soft lighting thing happening that makes you want to linger with a coffee. Check-in was smooth (they speak excellent English, which isn’t always a given in this neighborhood), and the staff seem to genuinely know their stuff about the area. My room was on the fourth floor, and honestly, the attention to detail was impressive for a place that’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in town. The bathroom had heated floors – small touch, but when you’re dealing with Hanoi’s humid mornings, it matters. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stayed at night, despite being right in the thick of things. You get the occasional motorbike sounds, but that’s just Hanoi being Hanoi.

Location-wise, you’re golden here. Hang Trong puts you within walking distance of basically everything worth seeing in the Old Quarter, but you’re not stuck in the absolute chaos of somewhere like Ta Hien Street (where the beer corner gets pretty wild). There’s a fantastic pho place literally around the corner that opens at 6 AM – I never caught the name, but it’s the one with the blue plastic stools and the line of locals. The hotel’s concierge actually pointed me toward some spots I never would have found otherwise, including this tiny gallery tucked behind a silk shop that showcases local artists. They clearly know their neighborhood beyond just the standard tourist checklist. The 8.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not perfect (the wifi could be stronger, and the elevator’s a bit slow), but it nails the fundamentals while giving you that authentic Hanoi experience without sacrificing comfort. If you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals would actually recommend rather than just another international chain, this is your spot.

  The Apricot was magnificent! (we actually stayed for five nights, not two, as three were part of a package tour). The location was excellent – we didn't catch any taxis or Grabs for the entire time. Everything in walking distance. I was very impressed by the fact that EVERYTHING worked (eg. lights, doors, safe, etc. – which is unusually good, in my experience). The hotel is very elegant and stately – marble everywhere; grand lobby; excellent staff. Restaurants were excellent and the buffet breakfast was extensive and fine.
  
  What could be improved: Probably the only thing is that because of the atrium above the lobby, the buffet breakfast is spread over a large area and requires quite a bit of walking to gather one's breakfast!
