De Syloia Hotel Overview
You know what caught me off guard about De Syloia? The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about how travelers move through a space. I mean, it’s tucked right there on Tran Hung Dao – which honestly can get pretty hectic during rush hour – but somehow once you’re inside, the street noise just… disappears. The lobby’s got this warm, understated thing going on that feels more like a well-designed home than your typical business hotel.
What really won me over was the attention to details that actually matter when you’re dealing with Hanoi’s humidity and chaos. The AC works properly (trust me, this isn’t a given), the Wi-Fi doesn’t drop every ten minutes, and – here’s something I rarely find – the shower pressure is genuinely good. The rooms themselves strike this nice balance between modern comfort and subtle Vietnamese touches without going overboard on the “authentic” decor that sometimes feels forced. The beds are properly firm, which I appreciate after walking around the Old Quarter all day on those uneven sidewalks.
Location-wise, you’re basically in the sweet spot. Hoan Kiem Lake is literally a five-minute walk, so you can do that early morning thing where you watch the locals doing tai chi before the tourist crowds show up. But here’s what the booking sites don’t tell you – you’re also really close to some of the better local coffee spots that haven’t been completely discovered yet. There’s this little place two blocks down that does incredible egg coffee, and the staff at De Syloia actually knows about it (they’re not just giving you the standard Starbucks directions). The weekend night market gets busy, sure, but it’s the kind of energy that’s fun rather than overwhelming, and you’re close enough to wander over but far enough that you’re not dealing with the noise when you want to sleep. I stayed there during both a quieter weekday period and a busy weekend, and honestly, the service stayed consistent – which, if you’ve traveled much in Southeast Asia, you know isn’t always the case. That 9.1 rating? Yeah, it makes sense.

Just like in the photos and even better in person. Staff was very welcoming, kind and attentive. We arrived earlier than check in time and they stored our luggage so that we could go explore the lovely French quarter neighborhood (highly recommend Luk Lak restaurant for lunch).
Our room was really nice, spacious and clean. The seating area with floor to ceiling windows brightened up the room and also made it feel bigger. The bed was one the most comfortable from our two weeks in Vietnam. Loved the deep bathtub and fresh smelling toiletries, the fluffy bathrobes were a nice touch.
Breakfast was excellent, many choices of local and western food. Fresh fruit, pastries and cooked to order eggs were appreciated.
The best hotel out of our two time stay in Hanoi, highly recommend it for the great service and wonderful property.Debra from United Kingdom – 1 May 2025 (10/10)
The room was wonderful. The staff were lovely. Breakfast was amazing. Location was great.
What could be improved: The little plunge pool was empty and it wasn’t workingNina from Russia – 15 April 2025 (10/10)
As requested we were given a room with a standalone bathtub which I loved! I also enjoyed having a corner sofa with a stunning view. Everything was perfect. I already left another review recently. Nothing to add ❤️

We initially planned to stay for just two nights, but after seeing our room, we immediately decided to extend our stay for another night. The hotel is stunning, with a beautiful French aesthetic and colonial design. The staff is incredible and very attentive. One young man (unfortunately, I didn’t catch his name) was especially helpful – he assisted with reception and luggage and went out of his way to ensure we stayed in the same room, even though the hotel was fully booked.
The breakfast is varied and delicious, and the location is perfect – peaceful yet right in the heart of the city, away from the noise. We also loved the complimentary herbal bath, as well as the steam and sauna rooms. The hotel features a lovely sky bar with a complimentary drink, and fresh fruit was delivered to our room every day! 💛
– The only minor downside – the handheld showerhead was a bit short, and although the overhead shower worked, the water pressure was a little weak – it’s the one thing that could be improved.
Spoiler: After our trip to Sapa, we returned to this hotel for another night.Sharon from Ireland – 5 April 2025 (10/10)
Great location, lovely walk by lake to old quarter or grab a taxi! Great choices for breakfast and brilliant coffees made to order! Staff exceptional! Room very clean, spacious and quiet. Gym overlooking the street. Lots of lovely restaurants nearby

Fantastic stay! The rooms were incredibly comfortable and clean. The staff at this hotel were lovely as well. The location is in a slightly quieter area near the old quarter, which we enjoyed. I would recommend staying here to anyone travelling to Hanoi!

Not cheap, but they meet their promises and the breakfast was amazing! Staff is also great!

We have stayed at this hotel twice and loved everything about it.
It's a charming boutique hotel with beautifully appointed rooms. We highly recommend it as a peaceful haven in the French Quarter after a day exploring busy Hanoi.
The restaurant serves delicious food but the best thing of all is the hotel's amazing staff. They go above and beyond to be helpful and made us feel very welcome.
For example, while in Sapa we had difficulty in obtaining suitable transportation back to Hanoi. We called the Hotel de Syloia and they arranged everything for us in no time!
