Golden Silk Boutique Hotel Overview
So I’ve walked past this place on Hang Gai probably a dozen times before actually staying there, and honestly, the Golden Silk Boutique Hotel is one of those spots that looks way fancier from the outside than you’d expect for the price point. You know how some of these narrow Old Quarter buildings can feel cramped once you get inside? Well, this one actually surprises you – they’ve done something clever with the space that makes it feel more open than it has any right to.
The thing about staying right on Hang Gai is you’re literally in the thick of the silk street madness, which means yes, you’ll hear scooters and vendors until about 10 PM, but then it gets surprisingly quiet. I mean, you’re maybe a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, and honestly, that’s worth the trade-off of some street noise. The staff here actually knows their stuff too – not just the usual tourist recommendations, but like, they’ll tell you which pho place two blocks over opens at 6 AM if you’re jet-lagged and starving. The front desk guy (I think his name was Duc?) marked up a map for me showing which alleys to cut through to avoid the weekend crowds near the lake.
What really got me was the attention to detail in the rooms – and I’m talking about the small stuff that shows someone’s actually thinking about what travelers need. The shower pressure is solid (huge deal in this neighborhood), there’s enough outlets near the bed for all your devices, and the AC doesn’t sound like a freight train. The décor leans into the whole silk theme without being cheesy about it – some nice textiles and artwork that feels authentic rather than tourist-trap fake. I stayed in one of the upper floor rooms and you get these glimpses of the lake between buildings if you crane your neck just right. The breakfast spread is pretty standard Vietnamese hotel fare, but the coffee’s actually decent and they make a mean banh mi if you ask nicely.
Look, it’s not going to blow your mind – it’s a solid 4-star place with a 7.9 rating for good reason. But if you want to be right in the heart of the Old Quarter without dealing with backpacker hostel chaos or paying luxury hotel prices, this hits that sweet spot. Just don’t expect to sleep past 7 AM – the street comes alive early, and you’ll probably want to be out exploring anyway.

Reviews of Golden Silk Boutique Hotel

Fantastic location in the heart of the Old City. Fantastic breakfast location at the top of the building with great views.
What could be improved: Rather too noisy at night with doors banging. Shower in our room poorly designed so water was everywhere, unavoidably. Dinner was served in the bar on the ground floor. What a lost opportunity.Kåre from Thailand – 17 February 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: The bathroom had a bathtube. When I would shower I had to stay in the bathtube. As an old man with painfuul knees I was afraid of entering the bath tube. So I did not shower every day.

This is a classic French style property. Choose your room carefully. The deluxe rooms have a ‘window’ that overlooks the staircas, so there is no natural light. If you want the best quiet night sleep this IS a great room. We found it a bit dark with no natural light. The room could use a lighting upgrade which would make it a perfect room.
If you want natural light select a room with a balcony. Warning, this will come with all the Old Quarter traffic noise.
The hotel staff was incredible and the bar staff took great care of us during our stay. The bed was extremely comfortable! It is easy to walk throughout the Old Quarter. Everything is accessible from the property.
What could be improved: The shower is a bit quirky and could use a bit of an adjustment.
The breakfast buffet was exactly the same all three mornings. Could us a bit of variety!Anthony from Australia – 5 April 2024 (7/10)
The staff at reception were excellent, helpful and friendly.
What could be improved: The housekeeping was not up to standard. The bathroom glasses were not cleaned, the tea & coffee not replaced and it did not seem to have been swept.Melanie from Australia – 22 March 2024 (8/10)

Perfect location and good value for money. This is my third time staying at GS so that's an endorsement.
What could be improved: Luxury room was fabulous, standard room perhaps a little shabby.Hong from Singapore – 12 May 2023 (8/10)
Hotel was clean, staff were generally friendly and hotel breakfast was decent.

I was glad I was given an upgrade to room with windows, so it was very good value for the price paid.
What could be improved: The electric kettle was not thoroughly cleaned & residue of instant noodle seasonings were stuck inside kettle. I re-cleaned kettle few times before use.Morten from Denmark – 26 March 2023 (8/10)
