Grand Plaza Hotel Hanoi Overview
Honestly, when I first walked into the Grand Plaza on Tran Duy Hung, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect – the lobby hits you with that polished marble-and-gold thing that could go either way, you know? But there’s something about this place that grows on you, especially once you realize how smartly it’s positioned in Cau Giay district. You’re actually in one of Hanoi’s newer business areas here, which means the streets are wider (thank god), there’s less motorbike chaos than the Old Quarter, and you can easily grab a cab to anywhere without getting stuck in those impossibly narrow alleyways downtown.
The rooms are what I’d call reliably luxurious – nothing groundbreaking, but they’ve clearly put money into keeping things updated. The beds are genuinely comfortable, which matters more than people think when you’re dealing with jet lag, and the bathrooms have that rainfall shower setup that actually works well. What surprised me was how quiet it stays despite being on a fairly busy street; they must have decent soundproofing because I barely heard the traffic. The staff… well, they’re trying really hard, maybe sometimes a bit too eager, but their English is solid and they know the area well. I had one concierge who gave me perfect directions to a pho place that locals actually eat at, not some tourist trap.
Here’s the thing about the 7.3 rating – it makes sense when you dig deeper. This isn’t a heritage property with tons of character, and it’s not trying to be. It’s more like a very competent business hotel that happens to be in a spot that works really well for exploring Hanoi without drowning in tourist crowds. You’re maybe fifteen minutes from Hoan Kiem Lake when traffic’s decent, close to some excellent Korean and Japanese restaurants (the neighborhood has a surprising expat community), and the Lotte Tower is basically next door if you need that kind of shopping or dining scene. The pool area is small but gets decent afternoon sun, and the gym equipment is newer than what you’ll find at most places in this price range. I mean, it’s not going to blow your mind, but after a long day walking around temples or dealing with Hanoi’s beautiful chaos, you’ll appreciate having a reliable, comfortable base that doesn’t feel like you’re staying in the middle of a construction zone or tourist circus.

Reviews of Grand Plaza Hotel Hanoi
Dominador from Australia – 12 April 2025 (7/10)
Breakfast is good and with decent choices; cafe barista needs training for good coffee;
What could be improved: exhaust fan not strong enough to fan away smells; room is dated and requires major design configuration/renovation; simple is best in the event that a reno is done; hotel's attempt to please with ostentatious and over-the-top design is so passe; furnishings needs big upgrade to bring it to 21st century; gold decor is too much; location is far from Old Quarter; did not feel the joy of a proud hotel staff showcasing the hotel; made me feel that customer service (i.e. training) is not a priority to hotel management.Luan from Australia – 23 October 2024 (5/10)
Was here for a conference. Not many other options nearby. Breakfast was fine, though it would be nice if they changed the menu a bit more. The sauna was nice.
What could be improved: For the prices charged, the place is not great value. Wallpaper coming off the walls. Exposed wires to the TV. The place is looking quite tired and really needs a makeover. Room was big but very sparsely furnished.Johnson from Philippines – 8 January 2024 (5/10)
What could be improved: The aircon temperature was preset and could not be adjusted by the guest to suit their liking.

the staff are amazing, the valet was more then helpful, they greeted us every time we entered or left the hotel, always offering assistance.
What could be improved: the internal restaurants were very quiet, post covid, so nothing personal,Dmitriy from South Korea – 10 June 2022 (6/10)
The location of the hotel is good.
What could be improved: The facilities were kind of outdated, though its a 5 star hotel. Everything was Ok, but too worn out. The men shower in the swimming pool wasn't working. I told it to a staff, they just smiled to me as they knew about it already but no action.
