Hanoi Marvellous Hotel & Spa Overview

You know what caught me off guard about the Hanoi Marvellous Hotel & Spa? It’s actually tucked into this narrow street in the Old Quarter where you’d expect another cramped guesthouse, but somehow they’ve managed to create something that feels genuinely spacious and polished. I mean, Duong Thanh isn’t one of those main tourist drags – it’s more where locals still live and work, which honestly makes the whole experience feel more authentic. You’ll hear motorbikes puttering by in the morning (it’s Vietnam, so that’s unavoidable), but the rooms are surprisingly well-insulated, and by evening the street gets pretty quiet.

The spa part isn’t just some afterthought either – I was skeptical because, let’s face it, half the hotels in Hanoi throw “spa” in their name without much to show for it. But they’ve got proper treatment rooms, and the Vietnamese massage I got there was legitimately good, not just tourist-grade. The whole place has this sort of modern Vietnamese aesthetic going on… dark wood, clean lines, but with enough local touches that you don’t feel like you’re in some generic international chain. What really sold me was the rooftop area – nothing fancy, but you can see over the Old Quarter rooftops toward Hoan Kiem Lake, especially nice around sunset when the light hits all those French colonial buildings just right.

Here’s the thing about the location that matters: you’re maybe a seven-minute walk to the lake and all the weekend night market chaos, but far enough from Beer Corner that you won’t have drunk backpackers stumbling around at 2 AM. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – like, when I asked about finding good pho that wasn’t touristy, the front desk guy drew me a little map to this place two streets over where I was literally the only foreigner. Check-in was smooth, they held my bags before my room was ready, and honestly the whole operation just runs well without being stuffy about it. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – good shower pressure (crucial in Vietnam), reliable AC, and beds that are actually comfortable instead of those rock-hard mattresses you sometimes get. It’s not revolutionary or anything, but sometimes you just want a place that does everything right without any drama, you know?

This boutique hotel located at a busy roundabout in the Hanoi Old Quarter punches above its weight. Every staff member was extremely helpful from Door Man, all of the Front Desk staff to the two ladies effectively managing the breakfast room on the 6th floor. The room we had, a Junior Suite, had plenty of personality, especially thanks to a range of effective room lighting options. The bathroom is large.
Ms. Lan, the Customer Service Director, was always extremely helpful, no matter our request over our three night stay.

What could be improved: Breakfast buffet, included with the room, served a pot of strong instant coffee which was very disappointing. Fruit selection was also disappointing. On the street we could easily buy mango, papaya, kiwi and watermelon but these fruits were not routinely available on the breakfast buffet.
The spa does not have private treatment rooms, only tables divided by a curtain, so it is noisy and not relaxing. Therapists were okay for full body massage, but not memorable in their technique. No sauna available.

  • Ann from Australia – 29 March 2025 (10/10)

Loved the breakfasts served on the 6th floor with views over the city and a terrific range of options. The staff were amazing, the rooms were clean and well laid out and the bathrooms were the best we encountered in Vietnam!

What could be improved: Nothing, it was perfect!
