Hanoi Old Quarter Homestay Overview
You know what? I was honestly skeptical about staying in a homestay right in the heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter – I mean, it’s basically tourist central, right? But this little place on Phố Bát Sứ completely changed my mind. The moment you step inside, it’s like someone took all the chaos of the street (and trust me, Bát Sứ Street has its fair share of motorbikes and morning pho vendors) and just… muted it. The family running this place has been here for years, and you can tell – they’ve got this whole thing figured out.
The rooms are actually pretty spacious for Old Quarter standards, which is saying something since most places around here feel like you’re sleeping in a closet. What I loved most was how they’ve kept the traditional Vietnamese touches without making it feel like a museum – there’s this gorgeous wooden furniture that’s clearly been cared for, and the beds are legitimately comfortable (not always a given in homestays, honestly). The air conditioning works great too, which you’ll definitely appreciate if you’re visiting during Hanoi’s sticky summer months. One thing though – if you’re a super light sleeper, bring earplugs. It’s quiet for the Old Quarter, but you’re still two minutes from Hoan Kiem Lake, so there’s always some street life happening.
But here’s the real deal – the location is absolutely unbeatable. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the lake, which means you can do the sunrise tai chi thing with the locals if that’s your jam, or just grab a coffee at one of those tiny plastic stool places and watch the city wake up. The night market on weekends is right around the corner, and honestly, some of the best bun cha I had in Hanoi was from a place just two streets over that the host family recommended. They actually drew me a little map on the back of a napkin – that kind of personal touch you just don’t get at hotels. The family speaks decent English and they’re genuinely excited to help you figure out the neighborhood, not in that rehearsed concierge way, but like they actually want you to love their city. Check-in was super smooth too – they waited for me even though my flight was delayed and I rolled in around 11 PM. With an 8.7 rating, I expected it to be good, but it exceeded that. For the price point and the experience, it’s honestly hard to beat if you want to actually feel like you’re staying in Hanoi rather than just visiting it.

立地が良くて、なんでも買い物できるし、旅行しやすい場所。部屋は広かった。
What could be improved: 上の階の家族が走り回ったりしたり、外の車の音やサッカー観戦で騒いでる音が聞こえてうるさかった。Alessia from Italy – 2 January 2025 (8/10)

Placé au centre-ville, tranquillité la nuit , et surtout une gentillesse et serviabilité exceptionnelle de l’hôte!
