Hase Homestay Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Hase Homestay when I first walked down Thụy Khuê street – honestly, the name made it sound like some basic guesthouse situation. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked into this quieter stretch of Tay Ho, where you get that residential Hanoi vibe without being completely cut off from everything. The street itself has character – locals grabbing morning phở at the corner spot, motorbikes weaving through at a more relaxed pace than downtown, and those gorgeous old trees that make this neighborhood feel different from the tourist chaos.
The homestay itself feels like someone’s stylish relative decided to open their doors to travelers. I mean, it’s got that 4-star polish without being stuffy about it. The rooms are thoughtfully done – not Instagram-perfect, but comfortable in a way that makes you want to actually hang out there instead of just crashing for the night. What really got me was the attention to small things: decent water pressure (which, let’s be honest, can be hit or miss in Hanoi), blackout curtains that actually work, and – this might sound weird – but the AC doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing on your roof all night. The owner clearly gets what travelers need because there’s always filtered water available, and they’re genuinely helpful with directions without being pushy about booking tours through them.
Location-wise, you’re maybe a 10-minute walk to the lake, which puts you right in the sweet spot of Tay Ho. Close enough to hit up those lakeside cafés and the weekend night market, but far enough from the main strip that you’re not dealing with constant noise. There’s a decent bánh mì lady literally around the corner – I probably ate there four times during my stay because it became part of my morning routine. The motorbike taxi guys in the area know the homestay, so getting rides is never a hassle, and it’s an easy 15-minute ride to the Old Quarter when you want to dive into the madness. What I really appreciated was how the neighborhood comes alive in the evenings – families out front of houses, kids playing, that authentic slice of Hanoi life you don’t get when you’re staying in the tourist bubble. Honestly, for the price point and the genuine hospitality, this place nails what a homestay should be – personal without being intrusive, comfortable without being generic, and positioned perfectly for exploring Hanoi like someone who actually lives here.
