I was expecting just another decent mid-range place in the Old Quarter, but this little four-star gem on Hà Hồi Street actually feels like someone put real thought into it. The location is honestly perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the absolute chaos of the main tourist drags – you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, but Ha Hoi is just quiet enough that you can actually sleep at night.

The staff here really knows their stuff, which I mean, sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is in Hanoi’s hotel scene. They don’t just hand you a generic tourist map and call it a day – they’ll actually tell you which pho place on Bat Dan Street is worth the wait (spoiler: it’s the one without the English menu) and how to navigate the weekend night market without getting completely overwhelmed. The rooms themselves are what I’d call thoughtfully done – nothing fancy, but everything works properly, the AC doesn’t sound like a motorcycle starting up, and honestly, the beds are way more comfortable than they have any right to be for what you’re paying. The bathrooms are small, sure, but they’re clean and the water pressure is solid, which if you’ve spent time in Vietnam’s budget hotels, you’ll appreciate.

What really sold me on this place though is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re close enough to the action that you can stumble back from a late dinner on Hang Bong Street without needing a taxi, but far enough from the beer corner madness that you won’t have drunk backpackers singing outside your window at 2 AM. The morning routine here is pretty great too – you can grab coffee from one of those tiny sidewalk setups right outside (the woman who runs the corner spot makes incredible ca phe sua da), then wander over to the lake before the tour groups descend. That 9.1 rating isn’t just tourism board fluff – this place genuinely delivers on being a comfortable base for exploring Hanoi without the boutique hotel price tag or the hostel compromises. The front desk stays staffed late, which saved me when I got completely turned around coming back from a Temple of Literature visit, and they’re pretty good about helping with motorbike rentals if you’re brave enough to tackle Hanoi traffic.
