LaHomestay Hồng Hà Overview
You know what caught me off guard about LaHomestay Hồng Hà? It’s tucked into this narrow alley off Hồng Hà Street that I almost walked past twice – and I mean, I’ve been wandering around Ba Dinh for years. Once you find that little ngõ 115 entrance though, you’re basically in this quiet pocket that feels completely removed from the motorbike chaos outside. The whole setup is sort of like staying at your Vietnamese friend’s really well-appointed family home, if that makes sense. The staff actually remembers your name after day one (not just pretending to check their notes), and honestly, that 8.8 rating feels about right – maybe even a touch conservative.
The location is genuinely solid without being touristy-obvious. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum if that’s your thing, but more importantly, you’re right in the thick of where actual Hanoians live and work. There’s this incredible bún chả place literally around the corner that I stumbled onto because the homestay owner mentioned it – not on any tourist map, just locals queuing up at lunch. The rooms themselves have this comfortable, lived-in quality with modern touches that actually work (the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a dying helicopter, the wifi reaches every corner). I stayed in one of their upper-floor rooms and could hear the gentle hum of the neighborhood waking up each morning – motorbikes starting up, vendors calling out – but nothing that actually disrupted sleep. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious for this part of the city, with hot water that’s consistently hot, which… well, if you’ve stayed in budget places around Southeast Asia, you’ll appreciate that detail.
What really sets this place apart is how it bridges that gap between a sterile hotel experience and the chaos of a typical backpacker spot. The common areas feel like spaces you’d actually want to hang out in – there’s usually someone interesting to chat with over coffee in the morning, but you’re not trapped in hostel-style forced socialization either. The family running it has been in the neighborhood for decades, so they’ll point you toward the good morning coffee spot (not the one with English signs), or help you figure out the local bus routes if you’re trying to avoid tourist taxi prices. I mean, for a 4-star place in this area, the value is pretty remarkable – you’re getting personalized service and local knowledge without paying international hotel chain prices. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your Hanoi stay because leaving feels like saying goodbye to family.

Reviews of LaHomestay Hồng Hà

What could be improved: Unexpected Roommates
So, everything about the homestay was lovely… except for the unexpected room-sharing situation I had with a local mosquito family.
The house rules say to keep quiet after 10 PM, but clearly, no one told them. As soon as I turned off the lights, they threw a wild party around my ears – buzzing and flying like they owned the place. Super loud. Super rude.
At around 1:30 AM, I had no choice but to wake up and remind them of the quiet hours. They didn’t listen. Things got serious. We ended up fighting. There was blood. (Mostly mine, to be honest.)
After seeing two of their family members die in battle, the rest of them finally stayed quiet until morning.
I think the host should talk to this mosquito family and remind them how to behave around guests.
Other than that small drama, everything else was really good!Dexter from United Kingdom – 11 April 2025 (9/10)
Great communication, great location. Furnished to a very high standard and comfortable beds. Quiet area but close enough to the old town (15 minute walk)
What could be improved: Nothing it was perfectJan from Czech Republic – 7 April 2025 (8/10)
The room was very nice
Modern room with a balcony
It was not far to the city centre
Washing machine in the building
What could be improved: There were a ton of ant-like bugs in the room
The location around the apartment was not great
There was a construction going on in the bulding which made the mornings noisyBrad from Canada – 20 December 2024 (8/10)
Modern and stylish. Good balcony, great bathroom.
What could be improved: I would have stayed another night or two but after discussing with contact why the price was so much more for the 2nd extra night on booking…all of the sudden the price for the first extra night went up 30% too. Disappointing.Alice from United Kingdom – 5 December 2024 (9/10)
Great check in instructions , the facilities here were superb. Lovely modern feel. And we had access to a washing machine upstairs too! Would definitely stay here again.
What could be improved: Unfortunately a lot of small insects\ ants were around!William from France – 28 November 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: surroundings isn’t nice at all
Caused inconvenience looking for another apartmentStan from United States – 12 July 2024 (9/10)
Right after I landed in Hanoi Hung, my host for the apartment, got in touch with me on WhatsApp. He explained the check-in procedure and gave me pointers regarding: getting the taxi, including the right price. The apartment itself was clean, very modern and well-appointed, including high quality cookware and dishes, quiet and efficient AC, and a washing machine. It is close to a huge fruits and veggies market, and just a 10-15 minute walk to The Old Quarter of Hanoi. Yet, it is quiet. There is a nice cafe and a few typical Vietnamese restaurants downstairs. All in all, combined with the friendliness of the management, LaHomestay Hong Ha is a perfect place, especially for a longer stay for digital nomads (decent closet/storage space, good desk for work, natural light, Wi-Fi that always works, large bathroom). Highly recommended!!!
What could be improved: I would appreciate having salt and sugar in the kitchen…Sascha from Germany – 21 June 2024 (9/10)
Nice modern and spacious department. The host was super friendly and gave us good recommendations about food places and things to visit in Hanoi. Good and extremely cheap food options just around the corner. It's quiet at night and in walking distance to the old quarter or the big lake. Very good value for money.
What could be improved: The area itself is not so nice and can be difficult to reach, especially at night when there is traffic jam at the market.Erhard from Thailand – 14 April 2024 (9/10)
Easy with local bus Nr. 4 to go old quarter Hanoi , (1 Stop)
Very comfortable bed and great bathroom.
Will stay again here
What could be improved: The light bulb 💡 should be replaced
