It’s tucked right into this narrow street in Old Quarter – and I mean narrow, like motorbike-weaving-around-each-other narrow – but somehow they’ve managed to create this incredibly sophisticated space that feels worlds away from the controlled chaos outside. The moment you step through those doors on Luong Ngoc Quyen, it’s like someone hit the volume button down on Hanoi’s street symphony.

I’ve stayed at plenty of places claiming five stars, but this one actually delivers on it. The lobby honestly feels more like a boutique hotel in Paris than something you’d expect wedged between a pho joint and a silk shop (both of which, by the way, are fantastic – the pho place especially gets packed with locals around 7 AM). What really impressed me was how they’ve handled the whole Old Quarter location thing. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, which means you can slip out for those early morning walks around the water before the tourist groups arrive, then come back to proper air conditioning and genuinely good coffee. The staff – and I’m not just being nice here – actually seem to know the neighborhood. When I asked about finding a good banh mi spot that wasn’t touristy, the concierge didn’t just point me toward the usual suspects but gave me specific directions to this tiny place two streets over where the bread comes out of the oven at 11 AM sharp.

The rooms themselves are spacious by Hanoi standards, which is saying something. I mean, you’re not going to feel cramped, and the soundproofing is surprisingly solid considering you’re in the heart of everything. Honestly, I was expecting to hear every motorbike and street vendor at dawn, but it stays remarkably quiet until you actually want to engage with the city. The 9.6 rating makes sense when you factor in all these little details – like how they handle the whole “Western tourists meet Vietnamese electrical outlets” situation seamlessly, or how the breakfast actually includes decent Western options alongside Vietnamese dishes (and the pho is legitimately good, not hotel-lobby-interpretation-of-pho). What sealed it for me was realizing I could walk to the Night Market in under five minutes, grab dinner at any of a dozen incredible restaurants, then retreat back to what genuinely feels like luxury accommodation. It’s that sweet spot where you get the authentic Hanoi experience without sacrificing comfort – which, let’s be honest, isn’t always easy to find in Old Quarter.
