I’ll be honest – when you first pull up to the Novotel Suites on Duy Tan Street, it doesn’t scream “wow” from the outside. It’s this modern glass tower that sort of blends into Cau Giay’s business district vibe, but that’s actually what I ended up loving about it. You’re not in touristy Old Quarter madness here, which means you get to see how Hanoi actually works when it’s not putting on a show.

The suites thing isn’t just marketing speak – these rooms are genuinely spacious by Hanoi standards. I mean, you can actually open a suitcase without having to climb over it to get to the bathroom. The kitchenette setup is pretty clever too, especially if you’re one of those people (like me) who gets tired of eating out every single meal. There’s a decent-sized fridge and enough counter space to spread out some bánh mì from the little shop around the corner on Pham Van Dong. The staff here gets that a lot of guests are business travelers or families staying longer than a weekend, so they don’t hover but they’re genuinely helpful when you need them. Check-in was refreshingly quick – no endless forms or trying to upsell me on spa packages.

What really sold me on this place was the neighborhood situation. You’re about a 15-minute grab ride from Hoan Kiem Lake, but you’re also walking distance from Keangnam Tower and all those new shopping centers if that’s your thing. The real gem though? You’re practically next door to some of the best local eateries that haven’t been discovered by every food blogger yet. There’s this incredible bún chả place two blocks down that I stumbled onto purely by accident – the kind where you point at what looks good and hope for the best. The hotel concierge actually knew about it when I mentioned it, which tells you they’re plugged into the actual neighborhood, not just the tourist spots.

The pool area on the upper floor is surprisingly peaceful considering you’re in the middle of a bustling district. I spent a few early mornings up there with coffee, watching the city wake up – it’s got this almost meditative quality before the motorbike symphony really gets going. Fair warning though, if you’re a super light sleeper, rooms facing Duy Tan Street can get a bit noisy during rush hour. It’s not terrible, but it’s definitely urban living. The gym is well-equipped enough that I didn’t feel guilty about skipping my usual routine, and the breakfast spread hits that sweet spot between international options and local flavors without being overwhelming.

Look, this isn’t going to be the hotel you Instagram constantly or the one with the most exotic backstory. But if you want a really solid base for exploring Hanoi – especially if you’re staying more than a few days or traveling with family – the Novotel Suites just works. The 8.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. It’s the kind of place where everything functions the way it should, the location grows on you once you figure out the rhythm of the area, and you end up recommending it to people who ask for “somewhere reliable” rather than “somewhere with a story.”
