OldHouseinOldStreet/1BR/1sofabed Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to OldHouseinOldStreet/1BR/1sofabed, you immediately get that authentic Hanoi vibe — it’s tucked right into the fabric of the Old Quarter on Phố Hàng Chiếu, where the street itself tells stories. This four-star property doesn’t try to be flashy or modern, and honestly, that’s exactly what works about it. The building has character, the kind you can’t manufacture, and you know from the moment you arrive that you’re staying somewhere genuinely local rather than in some generic hotel bubble.

Location & Neighborhood

I mean, you really can’t get more central than this — the location score of 10.0 isn’t just marketing fluff. You’re literally in the heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, which means Hoan Kiem Lake is a short stroll away, and all those winding streets full of street food vendors, silk shops, and coffee spots are right outside your door. What I love is that couples seem to really get it here (the feedback backs this up), probably because there’s something romantic about wandering these ancient streets together. You can walk to the weekend night market, grab pho at 6 AM from a street cart, or just sit at one of those tiny plastic stools with a bia hoi — it’s all within a few blocks.

The Space

The setup is pretty straightforward — you get one bedroom plus a sofa bed, which actually works well if you’re traveling with friends or need a bit of extra space to spread out. It’s not huge, but honestly, when you’re in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, you’re not spending much time indoors anyway. The place feels lived-in rather than sterile, and there’s something comforting about that when you’re far from home. The sofa bed isn’t just an afterthought either — I’ve seen places where it’s basically unusable, but this one actually seems functional if you need it.

Living Like a Local

What really sets this place apart is how it drops you into actual Hanoi life rather than tourist Hanoi. Your neighbors are locals going about their daily routines, not other travelers, and you’ll hear the city waking up in the morning — motorbikes starting up, vendors calling out, the general hum of a neighborhood coming alive. The street gets busy during the day (it’s the Old Quarter, after all), but that energy is part of the charm. You’re staying in a real house on a real street where people actually live and work, not in some sanitized version of Vietnam.

Why Guests Love It

The 8.5 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting — authentic location, solid accommodations, and that perfect balance of comfort and local immersion. Couples especially seem to connect with the romantic possibilities of having your own little space in one of Asia’s most atmospheric neighborhoods. You can cook breakfast in your own kitchen, then step outside for the best coffee in the city. It’s not about fancy amenities or room service — it’s about waking up in the real Hanoi and having a comfortable, genuine base to explore from.

To book a hotel in Hanoi during Tet festivities, visitors plan ahead to balance blossom markets with pagoda ceremonies.

Reviews of OldHouseinOldStreet/1BR/1sofabed

  • Sze from Singapore – 20 January 2025 (7/10)

Location was superb, right in the strip where the shops, restaurants and local market is.
Host was helpful in giving recommendations etc
Apartment had most things that we needed, if only they were cleaned before we arrived.

What could be improved: Property was extremely dirty – there was a thick layer of dust throughout the house, on the floors, the counter tops and the furniture.
Place looked like it had not been cleaned for ages, so it was not at all comfortable. It was just not possible to use the balcony – it was filthy!
We had to wipe off all the dirt before we could place ourselves or my belongings on them
There was a washing machine but it was completely spoilt.
But host was kind enough to do our laundry every other day. That was a great help as we were playing pickleball everyday and we needed our clothes washed.

  • Emmi from Finland – 12 December 2023 (9/10)

Apartment is spacious and tidy. The location is perfect, and the host is absolutely lovely. We were taken really good care of, and I can only recommend staying here.
