You know what struck me first about Peaceful House? The name actually fits – and that’s honestly rare in Hanoi where “peaceful” can be wishful thinking. Tucked away on Lý Nam Đế street, it sits in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to the Old Quarter madness but far enough that you won’t hear motorbikes revving at 5 AM. I mean, you’ll still hear them, but it’s more like a distant hum rather than feeling like you’re sleeping inside a beehive.

The location is pretty clever when you think about it. Most tourists get sucked into staying right in the heart of the Old Quarter, but this spot in Hoan Kiem gives you the best of both worlds. You can walk to Hoan Kiem Lake in maybe eight minutes (I timed it once when I was running late to meet someone), and honestly, that morning walk through the quieter residential streets before hitting the tourist zone? It’s kind of perfect. There’s this little coffee cart that sets up on the corner most mornings – the owner makes this incredible egg coffee that rivals anything you’ll find at the famous spots, but without the crowds of people taking Instagram photos over your shoulder. The staff at Peaceful House actually told me about it, which says something about how they think beyond just the room service.

What really won me over was how the place handles the details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The Wi-Fi works everywhere – and I tested it because I had work calls from the lobby, my room, even sitting in their little courtyard area. The shower has proper hot water pressure (not always a given in smaller Hanoi hotels), and they’ve got this smart setup where you can control the AC without having to keep your key card in the slot all day. Small thing, but when it’s 35 degrees and humid, you appreciate coming back to a cool room. The rooms themselves feel more like a boutique spot than your typical four-star – there’s actual character in the design rather than that generic hotel furniture you see everywhere. They’ve managed to blend some Vietnamese touches without going overboard into theme park territory, if you know what I mean. The beds are firm but comfortable, and the blackout curtains actually work, which is clutch when you’re dealing with jet lag and street lights. Check-in was smooth too – no drama, no mysterious extra fees, just straightforward service from people who seem to genuinely care about whether you have a good stay. With a 9 rating, you’d expect things to be solid, but it’s the little unexpected touches that make the difference between a good stay and one you’d actually book again.

  We used to live in Hanoi for 3 years and it was a pleasant visit to this friendly city. The house located in a local neighborhood, yet so close to the lively center of Hanoi. It was spacious enough for 2 of us and felt at home.
  
  What could be improved: The house owner was very friendly and helpful to make our stay very comfortable. She referred us to a nearby money exchange office which had very good rate. Good restaurants and shops around. We will definitely want to stay again!
