So I’ll be honest, when I first walked up to Sumitomo7 Apartment & Hotel tucked away in that narrow alley off Linh Lang Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. You know how some places in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh district can be hit or miss, especially the ones down these little ngõ that you’d never find without GPS. But man, this place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about this spot is that it sits in this perfect sweet spot – you’re literally a five-minute walk from the chaos of Kim Ma junction where all the buses and taxis converge, but once you duck into Ngõ 41, it’s like stepping into a different world. The street noise just… disappears. I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional motorbike puttering by (this is Hanoi, after all), but it’s surprisingly quiet for being so central. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions – they actually knew the neighborhood and gave me solid recommendations for that little bún chả place around the corner that doesn’t have an English sign.

What really got me though was how they’ve managed to blend the apartment-style setup with proper hotel service. The rooms have this lived-in feel without being worn down, if that makes sense. There’s a proper kitchenette that you’d actually want to use, and the bed was honestly one of the more comfortable ones I’ve had in Vietnam – firm but not like sleeping on concrete. The bathroom’s got good water pressure too, which you can’t always count on in this part of town. I stayed during the rainy season in October, and while some places get that musty smell, this one stayed fresh and dry. They must have decent ventilation figured out. The Wi-Fi was solid throughout my stay, which matters when you’re trying to work or video call home – I never had to move to different spots in the room to get a signal, which is more than I can say for some fancier places I’ve stayed.

Here’s what really sold me on it though – the location gives you options. You want to explore the French Quarter? It’s a pleasant 15-minute walk through some of Hanoi’s prettier tree-lined streets. Need to catch a train or bus? Kim Ma station is right there. Want to live like a local? There’s a wet market two blocks over where you can grab fresh fruit and bánh mì for breakfast. The area around Linh Lang has this nice residential vibe during the day, but come evening, there are enough cafes and small restaurants within walking distance that you’re not stuck eating hotel food or trekking across the city. Plus, and this might sound small, but the elevator actually works reliably – you’d be surprised how often that’s not a given. For what you pay and that 8.7 rating it’s got, I get it. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Hanoi, but it does everything well without any real weak spots.

  The facility was decent – cleanliness is fair, and daily cleaning service and assistance are available during the day and outside business hours.
  
  What could be improved: The staff, including the navigator and the cleaning ladies, was not professional!
  Firstly, they woke me up at 8 a.m. asking for a deposit as a pet owner (although no pet in the apartment yet. Then later on, one staff member intruded on my room because she knocked on the door and nobody answered?! (I am sure she didn't mean anything bad, but I considered it a lack of tact!)
  Secondly, they didn't really make it clear when they would refund me the deposit. I checked out at noon on a Saturday and I understand that they had to check the property before refund. However, the navigator didn't let me know the refund plan, only when I asked, and she was very vague about it. Suddenly, there were so many steps and people involved (boss, accountant, property check,….) Then when it was the deadline for the refund, the accountant went out ?! Another delay. I tried to call the navigator, her phone number was unavailable for an hour?! I did get my refund, with quite a bit of inconvenience and dissatisfaction as a bonus 🙂
  The system and the company sounded professional. Yet, the service and staff behaviors and attitude were annoying and improper! I didn't feel being treated fairly and my privacy wasn''t respected!

  I often smelt it somewhere cant be defined… wonder whether the mob wasn't clean so it left the bad smell or the humidity in ha noi bring effect on the house
  and i was uncomfortable when i arrived and found the washing machine was on use… the staff told me they could take the laundry later
