Tucked down alley 58 on Dao Tan street – which honestly sounds more confusing than it is – this place sits in what I’d call the sweet spot between the tourist chaos and where real Hanoians live. You know that feeling when you find a hotel that’s clearly designed by someone who’s actually traveled? That’s this place.

The “apartments & hotel” thing in the name isn’t just marketing speak either. They’ve got these apartment-style rooms that feel like you’re borrowing a friend’s place rather than crashing in another sterile hotel box. The kitchenettes actually work (shocking, I know), which saved me a fortune during my two-week stay because honestly, even great pho gets expensive when it’s every meal. What really won me over was the attention to small stuff – proper water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that actually block light, and outlets where you need them instead of hidden behind the bed. The staff speaks solid English without that over-eager hotel smile thing, which I appreciate when I’m stumbling down at 6 AM looking for coffee.

Here’s what’s really smart about the location though – Dao Tan puts you walking distance from both the diplomatic quarter and the old French colonial area, but you’re far enough from Hoan Kiem Lake that you won’t be dodging tour groups on your way to grab breakfast. There’s this excellent banh mi cart about three blocks down that locals actually use (not the touristy one everyone writes about), and the neighborhood has that lived-in feeling where you’ll see the same faces at the corner coffee shop each morning. The 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but everything works and the value is genuinely solid for what you get. I mean, finding decent accommodation in Hanoi that doesn’t either break the bank or feel like a backpacker crash pad is trickier than it should be. The only minor gripe I’d have is that the alley can get a bit echoey when motorbikes come through early morning, but that’s just Hanoi being Hanoi – you adapt or you bring earplugs.

  The apartment was clean and easy to find. However it doesn't have a reception. This meant that when we arrived, the security guard showed us to our room. He was really nice but didn't speak English so we couldn't ask him how to pay for the room for example. We did have a WhatsApp contact but it felt a little bit distant if that makes sense. Also, housekeeping like to come at 9am so if you like a lie in, you will be disturbed.
